‘D.C. Madam’ confirms hiring academy employeeBy Bradley Olson, Baltimore Sun, 21 July 2007
The woman who authorities allege ran a prostitution business in the Washington area for 13 years and counted high-profile government officials among her clientele confirmed this week that she employed a female Naval Academy officer as an escort...the Navy officer met clients in the Annapolis area and charged them about $275 an hour for “erotic fantasy” services.
One would think there would be at least as many erotic fantasies among the right for a Nazi dominatrix as there are for naval academy officers.
Gator90I personally find it strange that comparisons to Hitler and/or Nazis should be per se off-limits.
Although I don't address this point one way or the other in my post -- which is solely about the extremely inconsistent and obviously political application of the outrage "principle" -- I agree entirely. I don't think any historical or political issue should be per se off limits. -- Glenn Greenwald
Many of the current administration's actions are evocative of the behavior and policies of Nazi Germany. Recognizing the similarities and bringing them to the attention of others, IMO, helps us to remain alert to the dangers that such actions can lead to.
When the right uses those terms against the left they are simply appealing to the gut reactions that the words engender.
When the ADL and the right decry the left for invoking Hitler and Nazis they claim we are sullying the memory of the Holocaust. Yet what better way is there to make sure that no such thing ever occurs again than to be alert to, and warn against, the very behaviors that led to that historical tragedy?
Bebop-o, my brother is the undisputed Morchella King in our family. I had never hunted with him, so this past spring he took me to all his secret 'shroom spots. Wow!
We camped out at the pond that night and had fresh morels sauteed in garlic and butter over a wood fire. Not exactly lo-cal, no-cal, but most definitely some kinda' shroom heaven on your tongue!
Oh,
my
goodness!!!
I will have to ask him about the shaggy coprinus comatus. U don't ever recall hearing him talk about 'shroom hunting in the fall.
U don't ever recall hearing him talk about 'shroom hunting in the fall.
Of course that 'U' is supposed to be an 'I'.
U might hear M-E talk about him talking about 'shorom hunting in the fall sometime in the future after I tell him about the CC 'shrooms.
There now, that should be perfectly clear.....
Argh! 'shorom' is central-Ohio yiddish for 'fungi'. ;->
Mother, to four year old offspring: What do you want Santa Claus to bring you, honey?Offspring: A fyslexic dinger, Mommy.
I've had them aaaalll my life.
They're very spatial.
Their favorite word is "onky".
Pete layed a few brown shell eggs. A sunny side up dinner with 'Lentinus edodes' in a black fry caste iron pan, and the Shiitake mushroom, fruiting on some oak logs...
Oh, yes, YUM HUMN!!!
What bulbs are you planting?
2-lips?
Higherscents?
Daffy (Phyllis) O'Dillers?
p.s. what is the Good Celery Favorite Recipe for green maters? I think I will have a good end-of-season crop if the cooler weather holds up.
OK. I've had a few glasses of wine, so this may not come across quite the way I plan, but I'm going to lay it out there anyway (hoping some sense will be made, by someone).
(4) honors all members of the Armed Forces and civilian personnel serving in harm’s way, as well as their families;
"Phony soldiers" anyone?
(5) pledges to debate any supplemental funding request or any policy decisions regarding the war in Iraq with the solemn respect and the commitment to integrity that the sacrifices of these members of the Armed Forces and civilian personnel deserve.
I can't recall much debate on supplemental funding - seems to me everyonejust caved and gave Bush what he wanted - but that bolded part just about caused me to lose my dinner, and I don't appreciate that since I picked it right before we cooked it.
"Solemn respect and commitment to integrity"??? Do we need to dig out Merriam's and give them some definitions?
I once got in a heated argument in a barThis one guy, and Israelite, insisted that I was anti-semetic, and I just wasn't going to have any of it. However, it seemed the more that I protested, and the more I yelled, wheezed, and coughed, this chap just kept being more persistent in his point.
Turns out that he was trying to tell me, through his heavy Hebrew accent, that I was asthmatic, not anti-semetic. I finally understood, when having passed out due to lack of breath (and about a dozen brewskis), I was revived with his inhaler.
I learned a lot about Israeli politics that night.

I was in Ohio the other week for the first time- not a bad place- and while walking through Columbus I was hustled by some people passing out fliers having something to do with 9/11.
Just wanted you to know we're not all loonies promoting conspiracy theories in Ohio. Certain areas of Columbus are pretty thick with flier-suppliers (of all sorts) but it doesn't take long to learn to just smile and say, "No thanks." Even the most wild-eyed flier-pusher accepts that response and moves on to the next potential victim.
The ones you really have to watch out for around here are those Krazy Krishna folks. Those little cymbals'll drive you crazy. ;->
