You should give this guy the boot

My deepest sympathy to this poor woman. So her boyfriend can't handle that she wasn't a virgin when he met her. Did he think to ask her about it before he slept with her? Evidentally not. The writer says he wants to know "what she plans to do about it"? Exactly what does he have in mind? This guy sounds like an insecure baby. Grow up and accept your girlfriend the way you found her and fell in love with her. Sheesh!

LeCastor... chill out a little. Seriously

I hardly ever respond to any of the Salon articles and it's funny that i find myself responding to say anything positive about Angeline Jolie, because for the most part I think she seems a little shallow and that's being nice. That being said, why is it so hard for you to believe that successful, happy women want to have children? Not to pop-analyse but your parents must have been doozies to make you think of parenting so negatively. Babies are wonderful, kids are wonderful. Some people choose to have children simply because it's a great experience and far from stifling creativity it can sometimes do quite the opposite since children look at the world in a way most people can't even remember, until reminded. Again, I'm no Angelina fan but I would be willing to bet money that she will continue her work both with charities and acting after this new baby. AS for the whole argument that Brad and Jen broke up because of babies, how can any of us (the little people outside of Hollywood) ever know why they broke up. Do you believe what you see in People magazine. Give these guys a break, they are still human afterall.

Who says cats and dogs don't love grains

I saw a couple of posts about how animals would never eat grains in real life... for the record my two cats are both very, very health at 11 and 12 and have had a simple diet of SienceDiet kibble their whole lives. So what does my cat choose to scavenge when left to her own devices? Corn from the compost pile is her very favorite. My last cat was a nut for strawberries and cantaloupe. If raw food floats your boat, or your animals health, right on and more power to your dedication. But please don't tell me that I don't love my animals because i feed them kibble instead of chicken liver. Sheesh, don't we have enough guilt in our society as it is?

Control issues?

I'm sure this has already been suggested but after reading this person's letter it made me wonder if she wasn't simply exercising what control she could (over money) by not spending money. I think it can be very scary to be at home, not making money and this may be a way to simply control that fear. Or it could just be the same thing that hooks dieters and exercise fanatics... the better youg at something the more you do it. Still it's all around control in my book. Good luck to her. I say take a much deserved vacation.

Wow there are lot of angy men on this string!

I read the letter to Cary and I would think it's pretty impossible to say what dynamic is going on in his home. We know none of the specifics except that the LW and his wife are not having a lot of sex and his perception is that she uses sex as a manipulative tool in their marriage. The men writing in are accusing this woman of being a harpy and a hag (!?) and marrying this man for money. When did he mention anything about their financial status at all. For all we know she is the bread winner in the family. All these men who believe that they are always the meal ticket in the house must be out to lunch. Step away from the keyboard...

One woman's opinion.

I want to second Barren Woman

Hear hear. Why is is that only infertile couple are pushed to adopt children. I heard that over and over and frankly was greatly bothered by it. Thank you for mentioning that.

Since when has motherhood precluded working?

Every mother I know is a working mother and I don't mean domestic engineer. How many woman do you know who can afford to stay home now a days? Rob must live in some very priviledged universe, and i feel for the woman who need to be around him for any length of time. I am constantly amazed that there are people in the world who still think like this. Wasted education indeed. F-U Rob.

Does China test fetuses for sex differently than the US?

I am all for choice and making difficult decisions, but here in the US you can't determine a fetus' sex until almost the fifth month of gestation, at which point it is most certainly not a blob of cells (as one writer said). Does China have a way to test much earlier in pregnancy? There is no doubt that terminating a pregnancy is much better than killing a newborn, but it's all horrible, and pregnancy at 8 wks or 12 wks is not the same as a 5 mos fetus.
