LW
There is a big difference between hipster and scenester. At least in my funky little town. Scenesters rub your face in their coolness and always have the select band that you don't know about. Their pumas are consciously not color coordinated with their plaid shirts and corduroys. They get on my nerves. Hipsters ought to know better. Just a thought.
And mikes pace and co. seem to be about the whiniest letter writers I've seen in a while on this page. Did you even read the article? BEHAVIOR seems to blame for the age gap in men, making it even more of a shame that you "pay more taxes" and "take the hardest jobs." There is no inherent reason for men to live shorter lives than stupidity and laziness. Excuse me now, but I've got to get a manicure...

I love audiofile! I look at it every day! I've gotten some great picks from there! Don't get rid of it!
That is tacky.
Dave Eggers sucks! Don't hate on Franzen! Your sister's probably got all kinds of crazy anxieties and agonies just boiling beneath her skin. She's probably in therapy on the sly.
This one will go on my fridge, right next to the one that professor who got fired unjustly wrote in, with advice for creative people vs. the mundane, blase world. That letter was amazing, btw. Everyone posting today should read it, too.
except i've been reading all the female writers-in and nodding my head with THEIR woes. Something is going on these days... I'm in my early 20s, decent-looking, well-read, funny, etc, love dogs and the beach and watching movies on the living room floor with a pizza... but alas, I too cannot find someone I'd like to spend all my time with. MY problem is that I'm never content with the people i'm dating. I wonder what it is you do when you go out. I always feel like the denominator is me -- because I stop answering phone calls when I realize I dont feel the thing. I've felt the thing, I know what it is, but i can't find it anymore. What's going on, when we have all these nice attractive single people eating pizza with their dogs on Friday nights?
Google Documents.
i know what the LW is dealing with, to a marginal extent, in wondering where my life should be heading, whether to go for an MFA and write for 2 years. to generally be away from the malaise of corporate life and people that bore me.
thank you, cary for the wise words. some of us do indeed feel like we are hiding under niceties and translating ourselves daily so that others will not stare at us.
Please.
Aw c'mon. snarky and fashion go hand in hand. i loved it.
