When the full extent of the Bush Administration's criminality has been established by investigators in the years to come, the question for all those who served in Congress during Bush/Cheney's two terms will be "Why did you not do your duty by the people and their Constitution to remove these monsters from office? Why did you enable and endorse by your silence and inaction the ever mounting multitude of offenses against law, ethics, morality, and decency they committed? Why did you sit idly by and let these outrages continue and label those calling for impeachment extremists and crazies?"
One can see the consequences of unchecked population growth in a bacterial culture literally overnight. Bacteria have the capacity to double their numbers approximately twice every hour, so that at the end of 24 hours there are 2 to the 48th power or about 5.6 quadrillion bacteria for every initial bacterial cell. Of course, as their numbers increase, the decreasing availability of resources and the toxic effects of their accumulating waste products slows, and eventually stops, this exponential growth. This must inevitably be followed by catastrophic death.
Much like a Petri dish, the Earth is a closed system, with limited extractable resources and a limited capacity to detoxify wastes. Perpetually increasing population is really nothing short of madness or, at least, a willful ignorance with tragic consequences.
The term "sustainable growth", when applied to populations, is in the long run an oxymoron, since for any biological system to be sustained in time, population equilibrium within the limits of resource availability and waste detoxification must be achieved.
January 21, 2009 - Welcome to the Barak Obama Administration:
- Warrantless spying on American citizens continues with no one held accountable for the violations of law and Constitutional rights.
- Troops stay in Iraq indefinitely. The "green zone" is more heavily fortified. The U.S. continues to use military intimidation as the chief tool to secure the cooperation of other sovereign nations.
- The U.S. continues to have the abusive, patchwork non-system of medical insurance for its citizens, who continue to die and go bankrupt at record rates.
- The federal government continues record spending and borrowing to support its military apparatus and the various entitlement programs.
- The borders continue to be porous, with illegal aliens driving down wages and benefits of workers who are U.S. citizens, to the delight and profit of the big corporations.
- The "Security and Prosperity Partnership" (aka the North American Union) linking Canada, the United States, and Mexico politically and economically is strengthened by extra-legal means.
January 21, 2009 - Welcome to the John McCain Administration:
- Ditto the above.
We're screwed again. Bush gets a third term. Thanks a lot, guys!
I thought the way the press badgered and hounded her for the last six or eight weeks of the campaign to quit was shameless. Still unanswered in my mind is whether the Mainstream Media editorials and story slants and spins are directed and orchestrated from a hidden and higher source, or do they all act in concert like fish in a school or birds in a flock. Regardless of the reason, and despite my distaste for her candidacy, I admired the way she continued to take her campaign to the voters and continued to win states and delegates. The press was way over the line telling her to quit campaigning. Doubtless this cost her money and votes that she would have collected had the press assumed the proper neutral stance in its reporting.
This presidential campaign has been determined as no other in my memory by the mainstream media anointing some candidates as being the chosen and denigrating, marginalizing, and just plain ignoring their competitors.
In case anyone is wondering, I'm a former Ron Paul supporter who was going to vote for Obama in November, but, following his vote for the "compromise" FISA bill last week, am now looking for a candidate with real principles that will consistently oppose the neocon pressure for the piecemeal establishment of fascism in this country.
This is the biggest single thing that can and needs to be done to get past the problems of resource depletion and waste accumulation that threaten Spaceship Earth. It's obvious we have way too many passengers already, which is making life more complicated and less secure than would otherwise be the case. When you reproduce beyond replacement of parents, you are taking a bigger portion of the available resources than that to which your family is entitled. In the current condition of our planet, this is an immoral and unethical act of aggression against all other life forms.
So keep using fluorescent lighting, keep riding your bike, keep recycling your waste, but please also restrain your reproductive practices.
Nothing I have ever seen in print or online comes close to matching Conservapedia for self-satire! It's great! Check this story off the homepage:
Starlight problem
The so-called "starlight problem", or "starlight travel-time problem" is an apparent problem for the young-Earth creationist argument that the universe is only 6,000 years old, which age is based primarily on the Genesis narrative.
Creationist have proposed a number of solutions, with the currently-favoured solutions involving time dilation, in which time passed slower on Earth than in other parts of the universe.
Laws of nature don't agree with your prejudices? No problem! Just change 'em! I love the British spelling of "favoured"!
Tom Tomorrow might as well give it up! No use spending any more effort ridiculing the knuckle-headed right when they've beat you to the punch with Conservapedia. Actually, Conservapedia's editors should hire Tom to illustrate their website. The combination of deadpan self-satire and Tom's talking heads would be lethal. Either that, or Tom could just stop bothering to think up story lines and steal all his material directly from Conservapedia!
