A National Disgrace!
[Read the article: Amnesty Day for Bush and lawbreaking telecoms]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Now there is no question whatsoever that we have a government that is of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations. The government is now doing everything I was taught in the 1950s was wrong with Soviet totalitarianism: snooping on private communications without oversight, destruction of federalism through massive central planning, and increasing the burden of maintaining a large, far-flung, and active military. Everything the Bush Administration has done over the last 7 years with the compliance of their Democratic lackeys has brought shame and dishonor on our nation and has significantly increased the chances that terrorists would want to attack us.
Where can we see a list of the Senators who brought this injustice on the nation, so that they may never again receive the support or vote of a patriotic American?

Jonathan Versen Is Right
[Read the article: What the Huck?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I was listening to a panel of journalist on a PBS radio talk show on Monday and one of the commentators, in response to a listener call, admitted that the press was guilty of telling the public which candidates were "viable" much too soon in this election cycle.
The big story in this presidential primary has been the role of the mainstream media, Salon included, in telling the People which candidates were "front runners" way before the first primary. Many corporate-controlled information outlets have shamelessly excluded minority voices from debates and exposure in the press, to the point of literally pretending that they didn't exist. Astute Salon readers will know to whom I refer.
I find Mr. Huckabee to be an extremely unattractive candidate, wrongheaded on just about every issue, but if he wants to use his resources to broadcast what I think is foolish blather, that is his right in America. It's fair to critique his platform, but dirty pool to marginalize his candidacy.

Terrorism, the New Y2K
[Read the article: The Leader isn't protecting us and keeping us safe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I have just survived another night here in the remote mountain fastness of northern California, clutching my assault rifle, guarding my cache of food, water, and ammunition. The havoc, death, and destruction wrought by the Islamic terrorists over the last few hours must have been confined to the defenseless urban centers, as I see no sign of it here. These haters-of-freedom no doubt have taken every advantage of the lapse in surveillance to launch their attacks.
If only the Democratic traitors in Congress had seen reason and stood up for America and freedom! Now, with half our nation undoubtedly a smoking ruin, we are certain to lose our once vaunted freedom to choose between Chevy and Ford, between Coke and Pepsi. And it's all the fault of the sniveling, cowardly liberal and progressives, who place privacy above national survival, who would not heed the warnings of the President, who would not honor the sacrifices made by the telecommunications corporations in helping the government to root out the evil that stalks among us. I can only hope that the present attack has been sufficient to drive the lily-livered liberals in Congress to reconsider their ill-advised and treacherous disobedience of our Decider. We'll never prevail against the terrorists if we are made to fight with both hands tied behind our backs!

Making The World Safe For Hypocricy
[Read the article: The fun and excitement of civilization wars (fought from afar)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Facing as we do the Transcendent Evil of All Time in the form of Islamic Terrorism, a threat that must be countered at all costs for the preservation of our lives and culture, I propose that the United States military drop all age and health restrictions on enlistment. This would give the most rabid defenders of Freedom the opportunity to participate directly in shoring up the bastions against the hordes of Terrorists besieging the nation. I'm in my late '50s and have a bad knee, but that really wouldn't stop me from toting an assault rifle down a street in Bagdad, if I was so inclined. President Bush and Vice President Cheney, the most dedicated opponents of Terrorism, will be going back to private life in less than a year. Why couldn't they be allowed to volunteer for duty on the front lines? President Bush is, we are told, in great physical shape, and Mr. Cheney, with a bad ticker, is unlikely to survive much longer anyway. Anal polyps really aren't much of a hazard, compared with IEDs, so Rush Limbaugh's request for active service ought to be honored. Yes, there are huge numbers of aging armchair warriors who would relish the chance to stand up for America and for Freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan. They have enjoyed lives of security and prosperity for decades and now wish, I am sure, to repay the debt they have incurred and allow other, younger men, the same sort of protection. So let us move ahead in dropping restrictions to enlistment and active service, to let all these paper-pushing patriots the opportunity to wield steel and lead against the enemy, to breathe the depleted uranium dust, to nobly advance the cause of Freedom against the All Encompassing Evil of Islamic Terrorism!

My Vote Will Be Decided On Performance, Not Palaver
[Read the article: The "plagiarism" problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Senator Clinton will NOT receive my vote, ever. It is too late for her to do anything about it:
Who voted for the misnamed Patriot Act? Senator Clinton
Who voted authorization for the Iraq invasion and has continually voted for funding the occupation? Senator Clinton
Who refused to vote against the Senate FISA bill giving the Telecom corporations amnesty for breaking the law? Senator Clinton
Senator Obama can claim authorship of the Bible, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Gettysburg Address and no one would be killed, injured, or lose their property or rights of privacy. Senator Clinton, on the other hand, is a proven agent of the corporate-fascist elite whose actions have contributed to deaths and injuries to innocent people and to a growing tyranny at home and abroad.
