No rush, guys, really. I mean, 12 whole entire days for the committees to get the checks cleared, decide who to support, cut new checks, get those cleared, hire a new ad team, film a new commercial, find a station that still has unsold ad time before Nov. 7 .... Why didn't you just wait until Nov. 6th?
If the republicans hold the Senate, tie or are one down, and Lieberman wins, he'll caucus with the republicans.
Another one: Senate dems will NOT punish him for it.
We're not talking about under-age drinking at a frat house or bad taste in prom dates. This is a possible CRIMINAL charge against someone running for the United States Senate, for chrissakes.
Not to mention someone campaigning as a standard-bearer of "moral values." Someone already proven to have lied about past questionable and possibly criminal behavior (the deer's head in the mailbox.) Someone who doesn't have the guts to do his own dirty campaigning, but lets surrogates aim low blows at his opponent.
I say if we don't get the records by Friday, we do 96-hours-non-stop-saturation ads asking "What is George Allen covering up? If it's just traffic tickets, why won't he admit it? Was he arrested for assault? Drug possession? Rape? C'mon, George: Answer the question!"
The DLC and their fellow travelers better be watching their backs. Progressives and other real democrats are determined to stop them from cramming another republican-lite down our throats so that dems can go down to defeat AGAIN. The democratic wins in Congress next week will be DESPITE the DLC, Rahm Emmanuel and the rest of the DINOs, and BECAUSE of the progressive grass roots organizations that Howard Dean is building on the ground.
Bayh, Vilsak nor Hillary will never get past the betrayed and infuriated progressives in Iowa and New Hampshire who have been itching for revenge for 2-1/2 years.
I had to read it twice to make sure Kerry's remarks weren't a War Room parody.
OK, now I'm starting to think that the dems might actually pull it off this time, Diebold be damned. If Kerry, of all the mealy-mouthed DINOs, actually said this, anything is possible.
bush has just handed the dems the ammunition, gun and coordinates for the winning shot to put this election away:
"George Bush has abandoned a U.S. soldier to the tender mercies of the most vicious Iraqi terrorists. Even worse, he did so on the orders of the Iraqi prime minister.
"So, Bush and the republicans are taking orders from a foreign leader, obeying his demand that they abandon an American soldier to torture and horrifying death.
"That is treason.
"Democrats will put a stop to the Bush-Republican betrayal of our troops. Democrats will return genuine leadership to the military, to this country and to the world."
Assuming that the morally superior repugs actually do refrain from all sex until their wedding night, that certainly explains the epidemic of adultery, pederasy and homophobia among them.
But of course they don't refrain. Non-marital sex of all types is just one more example of IOKIYAR, INOKIYAD - It's OK If You're A (white, Xian, married, hetero, rich) Republican; It's Not OK If You're A (minority/non-Xian/single/gay/poor) Democrat.
Walter, really, I expected better of you. In KY-4, current dem challenger Lucas BEAT (although barely) current republican incumbent Davis in 2002. In 2004, Lucas, who was originally elected in 1998, kept his promise to serve only three terms, and Davis beat dem nominee Nick Clooney (George's dad) for the open seat.
It's confusing, because a lot of people in NKY still think of Lucas as the incumbent, and his "return Lucas to Congress" signs don't alleviate the confusion.
But a quick hit on Lucas' campaign site would have given you the facts in about 30 seconds.
Out of almost 70 comments, I counted a grand total of three defending Hillary. I'd say the commenters on War Room are a pretty representative sample of the activist dems who vote in presidential primaries. Does less than 4 percent support seem likely to get you past February 2008, Hil?
$50 million couldn't save Howard Dean, and 10 times that much won't save you from the fury and revenge of the progressives you've betrayed.
Mehlman and Rove better make up their minds. Which is it, GOP momentum to fire up the base, or predicting a democratic tsunami to create impossible expectations so anything less can be spun as GOP victory?
As always, they're trying to have it both ways.
Here in Kentucky we have many progressive activists on the verge of breakdowns after months of begging and screaming themselves hoarse to congressional candidates who ignore on-the-ground local advice in favor of money-wasting idiocy from national consultants who can barely tell Lexington from Louisville.
I swear, not only has every dime Rahm Emmanuel put into Kentucky (way too late) been wasted on D.C. consultants, but their bad advice has actually hurt the dem candidates.
Wingnut Ron Lewis is running them against Col. Mike Weaver in KY-2.
Yes, those 85-year-old grandmas who have never used an ATM, much less a computer, are an abomination, but they're also there for one reason and one reason only:
THEY'RE THE ONLY ONES WILLING TO DO IT.
I got a frantic email from our county clerk this summer, begging me to work at the polls. Kentucky used the new machines for the primary in May, and the usual volunteers just weren't up to the task.
You want to really change things? You want to make sure your vote counts? Volunteer to work at the polls next time. Go to your county clerk now and get scheduled for training. Ask questions. Demand answers. Make a difference.
Will some rich progressive please step forward to bankroll Nagourney's promotion to foreign correspondent? Someplace that will minimize the havoc he wreaks? Kazakstan would work.
