"The bottom line conservative position on the New Deal is that, theoretically speaking, the economy would have returned to "normal" more quickly if FDR had refrained from interfering with the workings of the free market through his vast array of interventionist programs."
Hmm, really. Okay, then why don't we just take back that bailout money that the taxpayer just gave all those banks and corporations, and let the free market fix the economy without it. Who are these guys trying to fool.
...that there's one big difference in the way in which executive orders are thrusted upon our society that might be satisfactory to the public's sensibilities. That is, if they're made with the idea of keeping the public trust foremost in mind. Something which cannot be said of the Bush administration; and something that we hope or believe that Obama will respect.
"Let's be clear: Obama didn't create these erosions and he hasn't even been inaugurated yet, so it's irrational to begin blaming him for this state of affairs. Many of the policies he is contemplating changing via Executive Order were ones that were improperly implemented by Executive Order in the first place."
...and that's it.
...that what it all boils down to is the right, far-right, conservative, neo-con, or however you want to characterize it, are just too fearful of the possibility of a Afro-American becoming president. They do and say anything to demonize Obama just like the Nazis did in the 1930s.
The GOPs only way of staying in power is to keep the country divided. This is the best they can do for the country, our country. And it's deplorable. McCain should be ashamed of himself. The Bush administration has brought nothing but dishonor and shame to our country. At the end of this election, no matter how it turns out, McCain has not only betrayed his supposedly moral high-ground (which I think has been suspect from the beginning), but has also dishonored himself, POW status or no. The guy's pathetic, and only represents the worst of what this country has to offer. Yep, it'll be more Bush-business as usual.
Obama, on the other, hand has kept to the same message throughout his campaign, which in itself has been very impressive, as that of a society of inclusiveness that will allow everyone to come together to get this country back on track in an honorable manner.
The Republican really screwed themselves over the last eight years. It's all come to a head for them. If, by chance, McCain comes out with a win on Tuesday, I fear for the security of our society and our country's position in the world.
If Obama wins, he'll have a long row to hoe. But, his approach will be much more positive than McCain's.
it looks like on my way to hell. I voted for Obama by mail last week. I was probably headed there anyway since I've turned my back on the church years ago. I still believe that the Big Bang created the universe, too. I'm totally fucked, aren't I Janet Porter. You moron.
not so fast, Thomas, the 4th is next week, not today. Let's not jinx Obama's chances to win by projecting McCain's loss before the election is held. As I read this article, I could see that famous photo of Truman holding up a newspaper whose headline read something like "Adelei (sp?) Stevens Wins."
Cheers
...oh yeah. A parody.
I saw article last night, but only got through the first couple of paragraphs because I got distracted. (My wife was also talking about Palin's remarks about gay marriage, and, being that I'm a guy, I was trying to filter through the conversation and what I was reading all at the same time. My wife won out.) I'll say that I didn't immediately catch on to what Gary had written, and felt a little concerned and dejected. So, this money when I got up, I went back to the article and felt quite relieved. Thank you! After reading what Kamiya wrote, it made me wonder if Shakespeare could've done a better job. This article was brilliant.
Bob the Banker needs to put away the violin, and his brother, Joe the Plumber, (oh, excuse me, Wurzelbacher.) needs to get his license and pay his taxes before he talks smack.
"Diane Fedele, the president of the responsible organization, Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated, says the image was distributed without any racist intent. "I never connected," she told a local newspaper. "It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else."
How stupid does this person think we all are. Republicans, the party of ignorance and intolerance.
...how she says "We really can't afford another big spender in the White House. In lieu of how things have gone during the past eight years, and most recently with the bailout, oh excuse me, rescue plan, being a big spender is kind of a moot point.
..."Pass Go and Collect $700,000,000,000.00/Get Out of Jail Free card" instead of "Pass Go and Collect $200.00/Get Out of Jail Free card."
Also, please excuse my French. Ahhh. Fuck 'em anyway.
