I am so sick and tired of hearing the constant moaning and prayers sung for a convicted killer such as Stanley Williams. Where are the prayers for the innocent people that he killed? I am fortunate that I live in state (Texas) where we execute people that have been found guilty of committing heinous crimes such as murder and rape. Stupid celebrities feel the need to perpetuate the worth of convicted killers and their "so called" change of character. It does not matter what they do in prison, if they make peace with their God, then so be it, but it does not excuse what they have done on Earth. They should pay the ultimate price, period.
This entire article about food is just indictive of the stupid obsession that women today are suppose to believe in. I am a 45 year old woman who believes that the idea of anorexia is a modern day idea of rebellion. Most anorexics come from good families, they are by and large well off, these girls are indulged and babyed throughout their whole lives. You look throughout history, there was no anorexia, hell people just wanted to survive. My mother grew up during World War II in Germany, even today she does not throw away any food period, because there were times when she had nothing to eat. The whole idea of someone starving themself on purpose is just ridiculous. She taught her two daughters to eat when they were hungry. Self hatred is just stupid. My whole family is not overweight, nor do we obsess about what we eat, because we do everything in moderation. I think it would be great if a columinist actually wrote the truth, and stop enabling these entitled people. Sincerely, Stephanie Richmond
The problem is that the French, and Europeans in general, have become lazy, entitled and unwilling to come to grips with the economic future of their countries. The two previous generations have pretty much succeeded in castrating the idea of free enterprise and economic freedom by raising taxes to extroidinary heights, imposing ridiculous rules and regulations, and at the same time granting huge entitlements to its people. Well, it has all caught up with them. Many companies don't and can't hire new people because of govt. regulations that prohibit actually getting rid of someone because of poor job performance. The current generation has been spoon fed the idea of job security, not job security because of performance, but just because they are a warm body. These protests are backwards, they should not be protesting against the govt. because these companies could "actually fire them", they should be protesting against the govt. because the current rules and regulations are strangling the free market. Getting rid of these antiquated ways would let companies hire and fire according to "performance", something the European market could learn from the good old United States.
Sincerely, S. Richmond
First of all, I am not a Fundamentalist Christian, but why do you and many others disparage thier beliefs? Why do you not make an example of certain Muslims that call for the death of Jews and Christians? Is that not harsh? Why do you not condemn athiests who are bent on destroying the religious beliefs of the majority of us? Is that not harsh? While you, and many others are secretly hoping that there is something else out there, the majority of people know there is, its called faith. Faith in the knowledge that there is something out there greater than mankind. It might sound silly and contrite, but the truth is, that on my deathbed, I will have peace because I do believe in God, not a religion, but in God. It is not a matter about being in "the in or out" crowd, but just living a good and decent life.
Steph
You can actually excuse Ahmadinejad, because according to you, his denial of the Holocaust is because of propaganda? Are you kidding me? He hates the Jews, and more importantly, he hates the West and he is truly crazy. Bush will be out of office in 2 years, and I truly pity the man who will take his place, whether it be Democrat or Republican. Bush has not caused this so called hatred in this region, it has been going on for the last 35 years. The ineptitude of our past Presidents especially Clinton who failed to act decisively on the many attacks that our country endured during the 1990's paved the way to why our current President acts the way he does. Only time will tell. We will see what will happen in 2008 and beyond.
You are correct on one point, and that is that politicians will make speeches that suit thier agenda, whether they are Democrats or Republicans.
I believe Mr. Boehner's statements about Lincoln was one of the bigger picture, that of preserving the Union. That our way of life will be endured.
You then say that the policies of Reagan and Bush led to "our so called downfall". You fail to mention the eight years of Clinton, that brought us the first bombing of the World Trade Center, the bombings of our embassies, the bombing of the US Cole. You talk about ineptitude and asleep at the wheel. That President did nothing but bow down to every terrorist in this world. He had an opportunity to apprehend these terrorists, but he failed, yet you blame the current President.
Do you want the Western World to survive? When do we stop making apologies, and actually start the idea of democracy and freedom in a region that historically has had none. When will the US and Europe get back to thier roots and stop apologizing
for every ill in this world? Do you have an answer for that?
