What is sad

Is that both campaigns have decided not to air negative ads on that day in honor of the dead. They are refraining from making the ugly and usually indefensible attacks they make every other day of the campaign, but will resume with the mudslinging at 12:01am September 12th. Nice. How inspiring. So they are implicitly admitting they are doing the civil thing. The right thing on 9/11 by stopping these ads. A more thoughtful honorarium to the dead from 09/11 would be to stop the negative adds altogether, and instead engage in real debate about the deepening mess of problems this country faces on multiple ends. I know it ain't going to happen, but I admire the hypocrisy of both campaigns on their one day moratorium on the negative ads.

Will John McCain's first wife be speaking at the Republican convention?

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 08:58 PM

@Kate

Get a grip lady. It was won by the other guy. Sorry, but that's the truth. I was an Edwards supporter before he dropped out so you won't get far calling me an Obamabot or whatever trolls like to call other trolls. Anyway, I'm curious, who are you voting for?

My feelings on the speech

I think there was so much hype, nerves, and expectations laid on her and this speech that there's no way she was going to satisfy all members of the party. I thought it was an excellent speech. Emotional in parts, truly stirring in others, and cohesive in it's intent to unite the party.

However, I was personally disappointed that she didn't take full advantage of the spotlight to tear in to McMcain more than she did. I mean the spotlight has never shone so brightly on her as it did tonight, and she didn't get out of it as much as she could have in terms of really attacking the right. That's been my gripe though with many of the speakers so far that carry some weight with the party.

This convention or what I've seen of it has had relatively little in the way of red meat attacking, and there is plenty of it to be had. Why aren't we going after McCain on serious character issues. There's a lot there to attack. You know, like his alliance with Charles Keating. His getting into bed with all sorts of dubious lobbyists, his hypcorisy in not supporting a GI bill that will give more benefits to the troops. His bailing on his first wife to hook up with his rich mistress. Real gut level stuff. Where are the attacks? What are waiting for? I think the Democrats are losing valuable time punching the right on issues that we are right on, and that a lot of Americans believe in.

Tough to find solutions

One poster touched upon the road rage of being cut off, and this tv movie directed by Steven Spielberg in 1971 is a great example of what happens when human behavior, anger, and cars mix. It's two cars, a wide open road, and lots of tension. I grew up driving in the overheated, traffic infested streets and highways of Los Angeles. I moved to San Diego at 27, which was years ago, and have found myself becoming a better and more generous driver than I ever was in L.A. Letting drivers in on freeways, waving them in to move into my lane if they needed due to easier traffic on a daily basis. There really is very litle in the way of crushing rush hour traffic here, so it makes it easier to relax when I can ompare it to L.A. traffic which is always rush hour traffic.

New York City was probably the worst I've seen as far as traffic goes. It's just bumper to bumper with nowhere to go. I can understand the feeling of futlity those drivers must feel. It really felt like a death race as a pedestrian there where walk signs were treated as dares and not facts. The only answer to reducing road rage and traffic is redesigning the bustling cities with better roads and expanded routes. Unfortunately that takes way too much money to do. As a country we've decided that money would be spetter spent on war.

Original article: When is a plot not a plot?

Unfortunately

You could hear the collective erection of the msm growing as this story progressed. The media just loves this kind of shit. I'm sure they were sorry there wasn't more to it they could exploit.

Original article: Greek columns? Really?

@Alex

You really are an awful journalist. Just awful. My first thoughts to your article were reflected in just about every letter already written in reposnse to this trash so I won't go on except to say,-just stop this nonsense already or go work for Drudge.

Now that

Was the speech I've been waiting for. Just magnificent. Easily the best speech of the convention, and a real missive against the failed policies of the Republicans, while also wholeheartedly supporting Obama. He nailed it on every level. Bravo.

I agree with the first poster

More blowhards giving long winded bullshit advice. Count me in as another person passing on this article. I have to agree with a lot or letter writers that this site sucks now. I can't believe i actually used to pay for this bullshit. The quality of articles covering everything from politics to the arts has steadily declined to the point where I really don't know what the overriding philosophy of this site is. Can someone fill me in, because I know it used to be dedicated for the most part to smart progressive causes and stimulating discussions about the culture at large. Now most articles seem to be written for the sole purpose of web hits from bored trolls who want to incite. Lastly, what the fuck is a John McCain ad doing here? Just awful man.
