[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The reasons you describe are why I ultimately didn't put in the New England comparison. However, the reasons you cite for the close game are just as liable to happen in any other game. Again, I would dig seeing UCLA win another championship, but I always fear the worst.

Dodgers
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I mentioned in a letter a few weeks ago that I think they're headed towards a division title. I think Torre is the rare manager who can be a difference maker without the x's and o's brilliance. He's something of a figurehead with power to me in that it's like the Dodgers brought in the Queen of England to manage but gave her actual authority to do something if things get out of hand. You might have individual players who are tempramental or disruptive, but when the Queen is nearby you're on your best behavior and want to please her majesty. I think Torre carries that weight with him to L.A. and that turns a team of individuals into a cohesive unit.
Torre himself has mentioned that he has to remind himself he's not managing in the American League because of the pitcher batting in the 9th spot. Usually that would be a bad sign if a manager has to remind himself which league he manages, but again, I think his mere presence and gravitas does make the difference with this team and finally makes them a credible contender for dare I say it, the World Series title.

@rampart
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Yankees may have had a lot of talent, but they didn't have a lot in the way of pitching, and that's what wins world series titles. Also, I respectfully diagree with your assessment of Torre's lack of "gravitas." Though he was not a very good NL manager he certainly revived his managerial career with the Yankees. Most fans can't recall last week let alone ten to fifteen years ago so the memories and image of Torre as a below average manager or even as a radio announcer have been replaced by Torre as the stoic, quietly strong tamer of New York. I think Torre now carries that image to Los Angeles, and in an image conscious city like L.A., perception goes a long way towards reality. He is the Queen of England.

[Read the article: I now pronounce you ... seriously unhinged]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That episode was just shown on my local affiliate two days ago and the kids stop watching tv due to violence being removed from the Itchy and Scratchy Show. They get bored with the friendly antics of the cartoon. (Itchy&Scratchy sipping lemonade and dancing etc.)

[Read the article: I now pronounce you ... seriously unhinged]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You get out of it what you want to get out of it. I love how I can get little seen vintage jazz clips and comedy bits. Other's love how they can get stuff like this. Pretty cool in my estimation either way.

[Read the article: Tight race in Guam caucuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Katetex says: Apparently you belong to the We'd Rather Stiff Clinton and Nominate a Candidate Who Can't Win Against McCain School of Political Thought and Suicidal Impulse.
Nice political discourse. You are a troll. You post to inflame. Nothing more.
Troll- also see ShawnWM for more troll posts.

[Read the article: Tight race in Guam caucuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Katetex says-The Obama camp's definition of 'troll' is: anyone who supports Clinton. This mindless accusation is made over and over.
I didn't call you a troll because you support Clinton. Had nothing to do with it. For whatever reason you have decided to mock Obama supporters. Mock, not discuss. You are an inflamer. I've read enough of your posts to see that, and I have a hard time believing you even believe half of what you write. You know Kate you might have a shred of credibility if all your posts weren't like the original one I responded too. They're not though.

Just curious
[Read the article: Barbara Walters interviews Barbara Walters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I was the same person who chose the so-called lesser sorority in high school rather than take a chance on not being chosen at all."
What kind of high school has a sorority? Aren't high schols cliquey enough?

I politely disagree
[Read the article: "What Happens in Vegas"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"You'd think the combination of Diaz, Kutcher and Vegas would be good for at least a little sexy, silly fun."
No, I would actually consider it exactly what your review described. A crappy, depressingly awful, generic romantic comedy that will be in and out of theatres very quickly.

[Read the article: Can Barack Obama win West Virginia?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think we just found our next winner of the dumbest quote of the year award from the guy who said this:
"I don't think it's being racist necessarily, they just don't like black people that well."
Here's who we want politicians pandering too. Way to find the bottom of the barrel Salon.
