Couple of Questions...

1. If this guy is so good why did they not pick him in the primaries in 2000? Imagine if McCain won in 2000!!! Even if he beat Gore in the general election I am sure he would not have gone into Iraq. People who actually fought in wars dont start them.

2. Is Palin or McCain running for President?

Mirror Mirror on the wall..

who has a pretty face and a ugly heart?

I dont see much difference between say a fundamentalist Muslim and a Fundamentalist Christian....America deserves better.

I just got back from seeing the movie The Traitor....

and in the end the guy who plays the FBI agent says to Don Cheadle's character that this "fight is far from over"..

In the same fashion I think a long war of ideas has just begun and with it has a long reign by Republicans...

9/11 was a perfect storm created for the Christian Fundamentalists and with 20% of the American population their numbers will grow even more and thus will the electoral pickings for the Republicans.More states will turn Red.

Nothing the Dems do will help.

The Dems should fight the elections like they have nothing to lose. Then maybe, just maybe....

New Scientist

the highly respected British Science Journal ran a study on what makes liberals and conservatives think the way they do and the finding: hard wiring in the brain.

That explains a lot of things. I dont think we can help it.

So end of the day people are going to vote for candidates that think like them and damn the issues. We can all cry over spilled milk later.

Now where are the independents?

In a democracy

the heads of the state(in this case) are chosen by the people or the constituents of the state. If in November McCain and palin win it is because a majority of the electorate feel they would better serve their interests.

One can further deduce that after 4 years if the country was worse off then the team failed on their job.

If in 2012 another republican pair is put in office democracy would have worked but was it efficient?

On one hand the economic standing of the country keeps eroding but on the other democracy seems to be held in place.

At what point will the collective good of the nation take precedence over the individuals likes and dislikes?

When will the pain ( self induced partially, afterall Bush was elected twice!)be unbareable enough for reality to kick in?

Damned if we do and Damned if we dont

Elect Obama that is...if he wins the Nation could be polarised further along racial lines. If he does'nt win there would be lot of disgruntled people who would blame it on racism.

But in the end one has to look at the lesser of the two evils. One thing is for sure and I personally dont see any good in it( just see the political disarray in my country of Birth India): the demographic shift that is hapenning in the USA will only create pluralities that will cease to see eye to eye down the road. Homogenous countries tend to do better as far as legistlation goes and getting things done.

What America needs is a leader who can bring everyone with varied backgrounds under the common idea of "America" itself.

Maybe Obama is the one. Only time will tell.

Original article: Is Detroit worth saving?

what about the endowments...

say the union's health care costs? everyone should be able to tighten their belt. I am in no way saying Unions are bad but when a corporation grows into something as big as GM there is more than one reason.

Secondly, I personally dont think there is the demand for small cars. With Oil prices falling people would go back to large hummers and other SUVs.

Maybe they need to be broken down into different smaller companies based on category.

Break GM into smaller companies

like they did with Telecom. As an Engineer when i got out of school, they paid me $20.hr.

I was not guaranteed any pension. Why should a worker be paid more?

I am sure the Union could be convinced of the benefits of a shared compensation reduction plan with management. Some thing to look at.

The Arabs have responsibility too

Unfortunately the rest of the Arab world needs to take responsibilty; especially kingdoms like Saudi Arabia and kuwait. Not to mention the Egyptians.

But wait they are busy gifting expensive jelwellery to Condi and Laura Bush.

I have a suggestion to the palestenian people and hamas: Invest in a Mahatma gandhi not rocket launchers.

Seriously, it worked for the Indians against the British. Palestine and the Arabs have only themselves to depend on and not Washington.

They dont have the muscle power to engage Israel so why not use soft power?

Maybe I am naive!

Preaching to the choir

that is what this article does.

GWB was elected a second time. So the blame, if Americans of all kinds really think something is wrong other than a cyclical downfall(economy), rests on all of us.At least those that voted for him the second time.

I fantasize about this writer losing her job

Seriously...this is not the Salon I signed up for a few years ago..talk like this is going to breed racism and denigrate a black Presidency.

Free Press

The very format that is TV is detrimental to reporting....visual medium can easily sensationalize news and distort facts because of the very nature of what it does to our senses.

Press cannot be liberal nor conservative and internet is the only way.

What of this news magazine? I have been a member since the early days and I see more banner ads, pop ups etc....it is only a matter of time I fear ....before its core values get comprmised for the sake of the bottom line

On a broader sense...

Right wing zealots, and especially the relegious king have a lot in common....

After all, Christianity and Islam are from the same region and share common roots.

Hate

can fuel a need to believe people like her....that is what scares me....I read somewhere that 54% of repubs dont believe in Obama's citizenship....so these kind of allegations can easily find the fuel to get scale....
