Original article: It could happen here

When the Nazis were frying the Jews...

the majority of the German poulation went on with their daily lives without any remorse.

It is considered unpatriotic to even discuss the Iraqi war dead.

If all citizens of MiddleEastern descent were rounded up into detainment camps much of America would hardy blink.

That is human nature.

Democracy I think would come to pass all over the world as it is a mindset. IT is an abstract. It is available in varying degrees that is all.

Most of America today still agrees with Bush and his party. They share the same ideaologies not matter what the polls indicate. I think the republican party knows this for sure hence their confidence in beating down the debate about the surge.

I would not be surprised if someone like Guliani comes to power in 2008.

Myopia...

Let us not forget the last 200 years of American History. From the anti German fervor(I think "freedom" as a prefix for "foreign foods is not new)during World war I and Japanese back lash during WWII to the Freedom Fries incident after 9/11 show that all of us and Nations behave a certain way during War.

It is arrogant to assume that we Americans are any better.

Also, I think it is also apt to add that what happened to Nixon, then Regan(during his second term) and consequently the Republican party is happening to Bush2.

It will happen again and again and again....

Road to Disaster

It has come to this: If you are white and want to be upwardly mobile like the Joneses, you need to be a Republican. And everything that the Republican party does is in vogue. After all who wants to be a Democrat with their blacks and browns and their rainbow coalition!

To "fit in" we are more than willing to sacrifice our young, the next generation in a fasle war with a unknown enemy.

I am yet to see the press chasticize Bush for the war.People are still holding back because we need to "support the troops"!

We are turning into a militiary state with all this support.

I think this is a highly self destructive mentality and causes more harm in the long run then any terrorist bombing.

But then again, America is a young Nation.

Original article: The stone is cast

What Falwell said was ...

exactly what Binladin, Mullah Omar and people who run the madrasahs in Pakistan and middle east say about America.

Tit for Tat.Eye for an eye.Hence the Iraq war so our blood lust is quenched.

Conservatives...

Why is it that every conservatives I met happen to be Racists and hateful of all that is different? Can someone enlighten me.I say this as a matter of fact.I hope I am wrong. Also, why is it that Abortion is such a sin(involves talking a life)but not war?does bombing make people to have more sex and make more babies?Seriously.

I have not heard one liberal on TV ask this question to their conservative counterparts.

I seriously would like to know the view points of the conservative on these questions if someone happens to read this.

History repeats itself...

Before I write my thoughts I am glad someone places the blame where it belongs: on the public.

But many wars have been sold for centuries on false pretext mainly because there was demand for it. American Nationalism rose to the surface after 9/11 and people wanted blood.

But it is also self inflicting in that people do not mind sacrificing their loved ones. What scares more more than anything else is that there seems to be a feeling that America and Americans indirectly cannot do any wrong. That is a road well travelled and one that leads to destruction. Lack of introspection is lack of conscience.

Original article: When Democrats collapse

there is not much one can do...

when the country and its citizens want the war to continue. You cannot expect the politicians to grow a conscience all of a sudden. This war was authorized by the people indirectly and it will continue till it reaches critical mass(more bodybags come home than are acceptable) and then history will repeat itself by the new cycle of retribution,retaliation..whose reytribution: ours or the terrorists?history will decide.

In the meantime cops and soldiers are Gods and the next idol shall have a foriegn name!

Adam and Eve...

Original article: America is not Bush

As a foreigner who lived in Midwest for a decade, went to college here..

and who admires America for its civil rights movement, the womens movement and it's innovation, I am saddened to see that majority of folks I run into share Bush's thinking or the thinking of the religous right.

I quickly realized that the above mentioned ideals are shared only by the people on the left. The people who swam against the tide of popular opinion then and today.

So this makes me wonder: Why blame the politicos when they only have lifted out into the open the dark sentiments of the people?Racism, prejudice, ethnocentrism, opression of women(whole abortion issue) all are raising their ugly head under the guise of patriotism and war on terror!

I hope I am wrong.

IF ONLY THE CONSERVATIVES KNEW: PEOPLE ADMIRE AMERICA FOR ITS COMPASSION AND ITS LIBERALISM. PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD DO NOT ADMIRE AMERICA FOR ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER.

Original article: "Are We Rome?"

What percentage of families...

find employment through the militiary? If that trickles up I think that would be unhealthy as the Nation's dialogue can be stiffled. We see that hapenning with the "critisizing the war is critisizing the troops" bit.

Americans are hurting themselves and in that sense we are like Rome.

Original article: A tragic legacy

Why blame Bush....

Blame the idiots who voted fo him not once but twice. Bush did what he had to do. The failure of the system is more scary. It puts the very notion of America in Danger. All she stands for. His ascendency underscores a critical point: America if destroyed will be felled by its own people.
