[Read the article: Interview with Bill Donohue: Catholic League denounces McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This time however, [Donohue] actually has a point. Perhaps when facing a real menace such as Hagee, he'll think twice about complaining about, what? Butt cheeks on "NYPD Blue" or something like that.
Donohue no doubt disapproves of nudity on television and in film, but that isn't where he and the CL go off their rocker in finding anti-Catholicism where it isn't. To take one example, the Catholic League vehemently objected to the film The Last Temptation of Christ. But a movie (or book, or piece of art) that uninentionally offends a religion's theology is quite distinct from casting the religion as Satanic, evil, and the "Whore of Babylon." Religious criticism or "heretical" and "blasphemous" projects that offend Catholics and some other Xians, are not the same thing is depicting them (unjustly and with no basis in reality) to Satan's anti-Christ.
The League also shrieked that the play Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it All to You was anti-Catholic. But the playwright was a former Catholic who used his work as a vehicle to illustrate his own real and unhappy experiences in Catholic schools. A former Catholic has every right to criticize aspects of a Catholic upbringing -- even brutally -- as long as the critique is moored in reality. (Such plays are distinct from 19th century, Know-Nothing screeds such as the fraudulent Confessions of Maria Monk -- made up out of whole cloth -- in which a woman falsely claimed to be a former nun who, as many nuns supposedly did, sexually serviced priests and they then buried the infants resulting from the trysts on church property & etc. A number of such purportedly former Catholics made big bucks in the 19th century peddling books and telling anti-Catholic crowds absurd, sexually titillating atrocity tales about what supposedly went on among the clergy and the nuns.)
These sorts of distinctions are not ones that Donohue seems to know how to make. But he happens to be correct about Hagee.
Btw, when a very young adult -- and before I "lapsed" into non-theism -- I belonged to the Catholic League; Donohue was not then on board as far as I recall, and it was then still headquartered in Milwaukee.

"Oh, Mona! The Major's back!"
[Read the article: The McCain/Hagee story picks up steam]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yup, Jebbie, he is, and god bless him. For those who don't know, The Major began posting long ago at Glenn's pre-Salon blog and most of us (certainly I) decided he was a parodist. He's not as entertaining as some, but he still does pretty dang good.
As to Glenn's post, AWESOME! He and others in the blogosphere have the MSM really looking at the McCain/Hagee angle. And I assure all, the Catholic voting bloc is not gonna like Hagee. (Unlike Glenn I wouldn't describe Catholics United as "less reactionary" than the Catholic League. They are moderate-to-liberal. Catholic social teaching on non-pelvic issues can be quite liberal.) And CU ain't liking Hagee much AT ALL.

"My comments in response to -- nabalzbbfr."
[Read the article: The McCain/Hagee story picks up steam]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My firm opinion is that you and everyone should ignore him. He's been absent from here for a bit, but contributed his many erroneous predictions and neocon assessments at Glenn's pre-Salon blog, under various handles. But always recognizable, at least to me and Glenn.

[Read the article: Tucker Carlson unintentionally reveals the role of the American press]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Oh, and about letting the parents choose…I’m pretty sure that sending kids to charter schools is a parental choice to begin with.
I have not read all the comments yet, and maybe someone else has already made this point. But the Irish interview exceeds 10 minutes by 40 seconds. YouTube has been enforcing a "no more than 10 minutes" rule to avoid threats of copyright violations.

@ eastriver re: title of Glenn's book
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, he received many, many good suggestions, including several from me via email that he pitched to his publisher -- and one of mine tweaked one he got here. I deeply disliked the title his publisher wanted (and which won out), and said so in no uncertain terms.
But as Glenn has previously explained in comments some weeks ago, the marketing people greatly reduce the ability of an author to choose his own title. That is what happened here. Glenn's publisher rejected all his proffered suggestions and strongly preferred their own choice. And that's how the title came to be.
That said, the picture on the cover simply rocks.

[Read the article: "The guys from the Politico brought my mom flowers"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm a big fan, but this time I don't see that there is issue at all. This is a video / blog of a teenager at a picnic her father threw for people he works with.
Are you for real? Her dad "works with" journalists like The Politico, who brought her mommy flowers?! Her dad WORKS WITH and entertains the "journalists" who are supposed to be at some decent level of arms-length-type-distance away from him in order to objectively cover a candidate who may be the next president of the United States? You moron, he has those who are supposed to scrutinize his past actions and current positions over for food and booze at his rockin' ranch, and lets his daughter put up a video of how much gosh-darned, like, totally awesome, good times they had with all those fun-lovin' reporters.
And if you think this is just some teenager's video log, you are daft. To you and KathyBird one can only sit slack-jawed, and then tell you: "Christ on a crutch, get an effing clue."
(P.S. Chelsea Clinton the teenager did NOTHING to put herself within the sights of such as Rush Limbaugh. Sweet daughter McCain has -- and you don't even see how she's chosen an active role as campaign propagandist!)

[Read the article: "The guys from the Politico brought my mom flowers"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think it's kind of funny that he thinks my objection to his words is "prissy" and "oversensitive". Pretty sure he wouldn't use those terms if I were male.
I'm a wimmins. And you *are* prissy and oversensitive. Further, anyone who has been reading Glenn for at least a month knows his position on the media, and why he posted this vomitrocious video of their behavior in its most stark sickness.
