@LWM re Lincoln Brigade

That crazy academic Grover Furr is a memeber of the Radical Caucus of the MLA (Modern Language Association). He also links to Gus Hasford's website. Here's a picture for you:

http://www.gustavhasford.com/ault.htm

Do you think Gus is a Maoist, too?

(Mona will hate this):

Yes, Mona hates apologists for bloody totalitarians. Here you go LWM, beginning with disappearance of 24 year-old Albert M. Wallach, and the executions and disappearances of American and other Lincoln Brigade members per Stalinist orders for, among other crimes: "Trostkyist. Being watched," "An agitator," "suspicious, tries to go home," "Trotskyist." All docs from the archives of the former Soviet Union on what happened to the Lincoln Brigades and how severely they were under Stalinist control, and so many were executed:

http://books.google.com/books?id=MBHSY0bCFWoC&pg=PA163&lpg=PA163&dq=list+of+suspicious+individuals+%22xvth+brigade%22&source=web&ots=ZfLsA9mpz7&sig=ODt5-5IbMJpuqtkELVsfz7kacnc#PPA164,M1

Wallach was almost certainly killed by Lincoln Brigade Stalinists for daring to contact the American consulate and wanting to go home (and so considered a "spy"), and many others in the brigade were subjected to terror by their own "comrades." That's kind of how Stalinism works, you know.

@LWM re Lincoln Brigade

Anyway, I meant you would hate the bashing of one of your favorite historians, Ron Radosh. No sense of humor today?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Radosh

Just think of old Julius and Ethel Rosenberg frying. That should cheer you up. Then read this by Raimondo.

That's disgusting. I oppose the death penalty, and Radosh does not think they had legit evidence to send Ethel to her death -- he is very clear that that was wrong. David Greenglass and his wife lied about one crucial matter that clinched the death sentence for Ethel, who was supportive and aware of Julius's wrongdoing, but not really active in it.

And no, we are done now. No more "making up." You can't keep trashing me the way you do and expect I'm just going to keep overlooking it.

Further, I do note you ignore that the Stalinist Lincoln Brigades killed their own per Stalin's orders.

@Paul Rosenberg

And when this happens, of course, it gives that much more room for men like Stalin to do even more evil to those who have few alternatives.

Stalin was not our ally during the Spanish Civil War. And the fact is that those who joined the Lincoln Brigades found themselves subject to a Kafka-esque discipline and paranoia that resulted in the death, torture and/or disappearance of many of them. If you are going to criticize Bush, it is revolting to make excuses for Stalin and, among other things, what happened to many poor souls -- naive idealists -- in the Lincoln Brigade at Stalin's direction.

@bucky1

It does not matter how far back the two of you go, or what your relationship has been.

Just for the record, I did participate heavily at Left&Right, but do not recall LWM at all. The liberal profs hosting that now pretty much defunct blog and I got along great. I met Digby's co-blogger tristero there, and defended him against accusations of being a "troll." We exchanged a long series of emails, never convincing the other to convert to our respective ideologies, but he did teach me some things about the Xian Reconstruction mvmt (or more accurately, where its members are currenty exerting influence) I had not known about before.

In any event, I do not recall LMW before Glenn's blog.

@LWM & Homage To Catalonia

Pffft. Shows how much you know about my time at L2R. I quoted from that, got an email from Don Herzog who wanted to know where Orwell said that, and I gave him page and chapter.

He thanked me. But you are a propagandist who is intent on spewing mud at anyone in Glenn's readership is at all not totaly left-wing. Libertarians especially are an obsession for you, and you simply have to bring them/me up in every thread. Why is that?

Monday, July 9, 2007 02:16 PM

@SomeNYGuy

Fine. You think bucky1 is the problem -- not LWM constantly having to drag me and/or libertarianism into discussion of Glenn's posts, and never, ever letting it go. I do not turn Glenn's threads into a treatise on libertarianism, I try mightily to ignore the asshole. But then I fail, and we are off to the races.

If you want all libertarians purged from Glenn's readership, why not just say "I'm SomeNYGuy and I Endorse LWM."

Monday, July 9, 2007 02:46 PM

@Paul Rosenberg

Sincerely, I apologize for misreading you -- I'm a bit in defensive mode because in every goddam thread LWM starts this bullshit about me and libertarians, some others jump on, and I frankly am ready to quit here. Not one topic can be discussed without him starting that dynamic. I'm not here to argue with leftists on the points where we disagree, but some seem to be unable to refrain from stirring that pot.

But about the Europeans who would not side with the Spanish Republicans, WWI was still fresh in everyone's mind, and war-horror was pervasive. It was not, or certainly not always, that they sided with the fascists.

And, bottom line, the Stalinists who did go fight, found themselves caught in an insanely totalitarian chain of military command that killed, tortured and disappeared many of them
