The hot Spot Effect

I recently had a conversation with someone about their dissatisfaction with the handmedown mac ibook that they had received in their office. It was their first experience with a Mac and they were very dissatisfied. We often met to chat and have coffee at a coffee place near Duke University which is frequented by Dukies, Academics, and local business folks and politicos. I suggested that she consider that her circa 2001 ibook might be the oldest computer at the hotspot.

I have routinely bought used macs for home use and it is wonderful how even the newest versions of the operating system work on them. Can you imagine putting vista on anything but a brand new machine, much less one that is 3 or 4 years old.
