oil

Vietnam was really all about trying to get control of the oil in the Gulf of Tonkin. It was mentioned by reporters on the evening news.

Someone in the media really needs to do an in-depth report on the effect of how those massive, untapped oil fields got the US into the Vietnam war in the first place.

Original article: "The Women"

No need to have remade this movie

There is no way that this movie will ever live up to the classic version of The Women which turns up on Turner Classic Movies. It was a hoot and made perfect sense of no males visible.

I'm sure this will be too earnest to watch. Not even on DVD will I bother. I'll just put on my black and white version and have yet another laugh.

His Maverick days are over

I feel sorry for McCain. I watched him destroy his hard earned reputation and sell his soul to the Devil for his chance at the Presidential gold ring. How many of us could actually say we could resist this prize if it was dangled in front of us? He was a gonner from the start because he let those same people who worked so hard to destroy him when he went up against Bush for the nomination work to work for him in this election. He let them chose the Devil's Daughter - the Barracuda - as his running mate without looking at her own track record. I think that he tried to be a good American in the past. I don't agree with his leaving his disabled wife to marry a millionairess but he did serve his country and managed to endure his prisoner of war captivity. Let's see the old McCain again sans Satan's influence.

this is a scream. Can this woman have worse luck or be a bigger fool?

Thanks for the link to the video. God does not like this woman.

Original article: Sympathy for Charles Graner

they should all pay, Graner included

He did it. There are the pictures of him grinning over his choice of action. He's like those who willingly joined the nazi party and then say they were "only following orders".

Everyone who took part needs to be punished. From top to bottom they need to be drummed out of the military and any political position. All these people forgot that when you torture others then the others get to torture you.

Original article: The Israel rules

Palestinians need the worlds protection

To launch an all-out military attack against people who could not possibly fight back in the same manner is sheer cowardice. To destroy the infrastructure of a people who have nothing is deep cruelty. To name people terrorists because they want land back that was taken from them and handed over by the Western governments without consultation is blindness.

The old news media may have an unnatural love of Israel and act as cheerleaders as Israel uses the 100 Palestinian deaths to 1 Israeli criteria but the internet will tell the true stories. As the world turned against America in the Bush years for their outright brutality, the world will turn against Israel for this war.

Original article: A nation of Herbert Hoovers

the great depression?

What on earth do you mean "Didn't they learn anything from the Great Depression?" I'm in my late 50's and I'm a Boomer. My Grandparents and Parents were in the Depression but by the time I came along it wasn't much discussed because there had been an improvement in living standards. What I know about it came from tv and movies.

Most of these young people haven't a clue about the Depression or what it was like. We get tons of stuff on tv about the wars, wars, wars, but nothing on the lives of people before and during the Depression or what it was like pre-unions. It's like talking about how cro-magnon man lived to people not much younger than me. When all you know is plenty then poverty isn't thought of.

Original article: The trans bathroom debate

sorry but I don't agree

I agree with the warning to not allow your children to go into the washroom alone at the best of times but this will endanger them even more. Pervs will take any advantage they can if they think they'll get into a womens' washroom. Since there is no way you can prove they truly are transgendered I say keep out if your transformation isn't complete. If you've got your tackle and it works use the mens' and stay out of the womens'. How the heck are women supposed to figure out if someone is just a cross dresser or transgendered? Prejudiced? Yes.
