Bush and the Military

Dear Mr. Grieve:

Yours is the latest in a number of articles I've seen that underscore Bush's penchant for only appearing lately before military audiences. The implication seems to be this is a naturally-friendly constituency for him. But I think this is an oversimplification of the issue. Fact is, it would be a crime for a member of the military-cadet or otherwise-to indicate disrespect or disagreement with the Commander-in-Chief. In my view, Bush's use of the military as a captive audience is thus an even more cynical ploy than is being reported.
