I am a liberal and a Democrat -- and I don't care if it is politically incorrect or not -- I think it is not good for a family -- ANY family with with 5 kids, with a special needs baby and a teen in crisis (which I consider having a pregnant, about to be married 17 year old to be) and a 19 year old heading off to war -- to have a spouse running for the one of the highest office in the land!
And people were afraid of Clinton being distracted by his legal problems!
It isn't fair to the kids and it is scary to think of a VP with so many difficult personal events happening while she or he needs to concentrate on the needs of an entire country during one of the most difficult periods we have faced in a long time.
And it is INCREDIBLY hypocritical for many Right Wing Christians, who made working mothers feel like dirt for years to be acting all "high and mighty" now.
This is all so insane that I can't believe it. To think that people do not think it is reasonable to wonder how a person will be able to deal with a new baby, with health and mental development problems, a daughter with health and emotional development problems and a son who could be killed at any moment -- along with the normal parental issues of raising 5 human beings, only goes to show how little Americans really care about the job of parenting.
And for those of you who say "Todd will be there raising the kids!" Pish Posh!! Todd has almost always worked, the spouse of the Vice President has a LOT of his own duties and -- for all the Family Values folks out there -- I thought you needed BOTH parents to raise a family right? Does this mean that you are going to be happy letting gays adopt, now?
Puh-leaze. This is about power -- and holding onto it when Bush is gone.
And, no one -- apparently -- is "thinking of the children."
Recent polling says that NJ is close. Huh? Just like in 2004 when we all worried about New Jersey...
But, all it really shows is that the polling methods are screwed up.
I'm not saying Dems shouldn't work our asses off -- or that the GOP base isn't newly aroused, or that low-information and racist voters will not continue to be an issue -- but it is obvious that these polls are using models and data that are not reflecting reality.
The most worrisome aspect is that the polls create a narrative that the MSM lazily follows -- but it can also help keep Obama in "Underdog" status -- which never hurts -- and keep Dems working hard.
Couric will only be "rehabilitated" if she does a real "journalistic" interview" with Palin and not just some "fluff" piece.
If Couric can't do better than the women on the View did with McCain -- and I mean BETTER -- she has no business trying to be a "break-through female" anything.
This is it Katie, my girl -- our woman. This is your moment.
Don't blow it.
Obama's election to the Illinois Senate: It wasn't "luck."
Obama fought a TOUGH primary race against 7 other Democratic rivals, including 2 favored Democratic insiders -- one of whom was favored by powerful unions and one of whom had great personal wealth (the DNC LOVES self-financing candidates!). Obama started out in 3rd and 4th place but ended up winning by running a great, pragmatic campaign.
The GOP ended up nominating Jack Ryan, a millionaire who became an inner city teacher who had been married to the voluptuous Jeri Ryan of Star Trek, who played Seven of Nine. Unfortunately, after rumors surfaced about Ryan's divorce that mentioned sexually humiliating his wife, the demand to open Ryan's divorce decree got too strong to deny. It was then learned that Jack Ryan had taken his wife to sex clubs and tried to force her to have sex in public with him. Ryan soon dropped out of the race.
No other Illinois Republican wanted to enter the race at this point because Obama was doing so well in the polls. THIS IS THE PART ALL TROLLS AND OBAMA HATERS LEAVE OUT. So, I will repeat it: No other ILLINOIS Republican wanted to enter the race at this point because Obama was doing so well. NO REPUBLICAN WANTED TO WASTE HIS OR HER TIME OR MONEY RUNNING A DOOMED CAMPAIGN.
So, the perennial freak candidate, Alan Keyes decided to be a sacrificial lamb and make a public fool of himself one more time. But it wasn't luck -- it was because Obama had already won because of GOP missteps and the fact that Illinois was becoming a solidly Blue State.
If you are going to allude to a story to back up your garbage about Senator Barack Obama, Ivy League educated, public service employee, constitutional law professor, civil rights attorney, editor of the Harvard Law Review and US Senator who co-sponsored major bi-partisan legislation with Dick Lugar, Tom Coburn and John Warner and tackled issues to help veterans and young children -- please get the facts right.
Calm down, everyone -- the last debate is on economic issues and other domestic issues -- right before the election.
McCain was worse at the subject that he was supposed to excel at.
Obama won on Foreign Policy tonight. And he will win on economic and domestic issues later.
McCain looked like a name-dropping, cranky old fart. Ick.
