[Read more letters about this article: Here]...or Fireball XL5. Or Kimba, the White Lion. Or Dodo, The Kid From Outer Space. Dang!

Speedracer, Kimba, Dodo, et. al...
[Read the article: "Speed Racer"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...were all great cartoons valued strictly for their camp appeal. They were so bad they were good, & even as a kid growing up in the 60's I recognized that & loved 'em for it (although Speedracer was a little after my time). Hollywood just needs to get a grip & leave this 'live action' stuff alone. It cannot or never will be able to duplicate the original intent of an originally tacky cartoon. :)

sounds totally hilarious
[Read the article: If Austin Powers were French -- and funny]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'll definately have to look into it. And you're also correct to say that the Austin Powers films were dumb, because they were way too obvious in the way they tried so hard to parody the spy flicks of the '60's. I would imagine this film to be more closely aligned with the subtle wit of the great Peter Sellar's Pink Panther films decades ago, something that Mike Meyers was never able to do.
Looking forward to seeing it.

hey
[Read the article: "Speed Racer"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Does anybody remember SPACE ANGEL? It also used that Synchro-Vox technique, like Clutch...great weird, cool, bad, bizzaro stuff. Love it.

@pandora
[Read the article: "Speed Racer"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Man, I was just thinking too that Clutch Cargo might have been the inspiration for Race Bannon in JQ, so thanks for jogging my memory after over 40 years--I LOVED watching Johnny Quest as a kid. All those unusual cartoons we watched were great fun, maybe Space Angel wasn't all that inspirational, but it was truly weird & fun to watch as a kid. It entertained. We just need to be thankful that those cartoons were so much better than the more violent ones that most kids are subjected to today, where simple good always triumphs over evil. No one sees that happening much anymore; & I would imagine that most people of my generation agree.

I don't get it.
[Read the article: My boyfriend has an abysmal environmental conscience]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But for me personally, I'd much rather be in a relationship with someone who shared similar interests, passions, & beliefs rather than someone who was a polar opposite. I mean, I guess somehow it works in some relationships since you keep hearing the old adage about how opposites attract, but all I'd feel is frustration & a lack of connection to that other person. And who in their right mind would want to experience that? Not me. Unless, of course, certain couples enjoy the challenge of imposing themselves on each other in order to feel more righteous or superior. Or maybe it's just the visceral thrill they experience from getting involved in a heated debate. I've known many couples like this, & all they seem to do is argue & let their egos get in the way of a more balanced, relaxed & like-minded relationship. It sounds much too exhausting or even depressing for anyone to tolerate...& life's just too goddamn short.
Wouldn't couples be happier if they were more in sync with shared ideas? Why be with someone if your beliefs are in continual opposition with no compromise in sight? Doesn't sound very pleasant. Have I missed something?

has flirted with the idea of being a criminal
[Read the article: My fiancé suddenly joined the Marines]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]WireOmonkey, although I agree with your post, the one thing that concerned me was that particular statement in the letter. While depressed or bi-polar people can certainly be wildly creative & brilliant, they can also be wildly unpredictable & impulsive. Whether it was just a harmless off-the-cuff sort of remark the boyfriend made or not, I'd tend to err on the side of caution & voice some concerns as the LW did. Unfortunately we really don't have enough information in this letter to go on since it's based purely on personal observation provided by the LW, but I think her concerns are very real.
If the BF is not willing to take her suggestion to see a psychiatrist for a proper diagnosis, then I think it might be wiser (if not safer) for her to move on without him.

Good lord!!
[Read the article: The ladies love street harassment!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You mean to tell me in this day & age men still actually CATCALL?? Haven't experienced that in a decades! (oh, that's right, I keep forgetting...I'm 50 something).

Thank you Salon
[Read the article: Finale wrap-up: "American Idol"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]About an hour after watching last night's (emotionallly for me) crowning of the new AI, I frantically logged onto Salon to see if anyone on its staff of writers had anything to say about the show. No, not yet. Then again early this morning--still nothing. I was eager to get an opinion on the results, since from day one I was so passionate about the talent of David Cook that I simply KNEW that this time, something important was gonna get said about it...because something important had just happened the night before.
I have just walked through my door, logged on, & now I see it. Thanks. David Cook is da bomb, & yes...America finally DID get it right.

nerve wracking game
[Read the article: Penguins survive trip to the brink]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]To say the very least. I had all but resigned myself to the inevitable, but after the Pens tied it up I couldn't stop watching, all the way through to the crazy end (although many times I turned the TV off & on, only to let my curiosity about the outcome get the better of me despite my jangled nerves) so I kept my vigil into the wee hours. Yes, the Pens are young, scrappy & talented, & I really hope to see this Cinderella story result in a final winning outcome, fulfilling the youthful dreams of these great guys. A little doubtful, I'm remaining hopeful, but they truly deserve it. Sometimes you just never know.
