Pure Obsessive
[Read the article: I've got a stupid racist ditty playing in my head]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A few people on this post have mentioned OCD, a disorder that I don't think is fitting of the situation. Pure obsession or pure obsessive disorder is when a person has obsessive thoughts that aren't necessarily tied to any actions. For people with the disorder, this can happen repeatedly and endlessly, for others it may happen only once in a while.
Most people dismiss their irrational or appalling thoughts easily. People experiencing pure obsessive disorder or who are simply having an obsessive thought agonize over the thought and what it means about them as a person. I am not at all saying that this is the case here, just that few people know about this, more hidden, disorder. You can read more about it here: http://www.ocdonline.com/articlephillipson1.php.

The sources of the quotes
[Read the article: Wife abuse vs. dog abuse]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]One thing that no one mentioned is the fact that every quote about wife abuse came from a teammate, owner, or manager and that every quote regarding animal torture came from someone who was not affiliated with the abuser/torturer. Maybe this says more about the way owners and teammates view the actions of fellow players and less about views on specific incididences.
I'm sure that citizens, Senators, and founders of animal rights organizations are disgusted by wife abuse as much as they are by animal abuse. I bet it's pretty difficult to get a player or owner to say something negative about a teammate while he or she is still on the team.
The quiz is very poorly made.

An appropriate article and deserved critique
[Read the article: The battle of the literary endorsements]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think this article achieves everything it can in the few words employed by Miller and is more appropriately-critical than mean-spirited.
This article reminds me of "A Reader's Manifesto" both because of its subjects and the response to it. As you read Morrison, it is often easy to get lost or confused and not necessarily because of the complexity of her ideas or high level of thinking required to understand what she is trying to say, but because her writing can quickly become unfocused and opaque.

yikes
[Read the article: The gay marriage slump]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]@ trilobyte
Your last comment expresses the way I've been feeling about the idea of marriage. If in a few years, same sex marriage and straight marriage are the same thing, it would be a much more complicated decision for me to make than my straight friends. Because it's never actually been an option, I've never thought about "would I if I could", it is impossible to do that seriously.
The whole thing is pretty terrifying.

Semitic
[Read the article: Obama should be proud to be named Hussein]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]@Reader
Semitic refers to a group of languages (family) including Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic, Maltese, and a few others I can't think of at the moment. It can also be use to refer to a wide range of people from southwest Asia and the Middle East.
Judaism is a religion tied very closely with the Hebrew language, but by no means are "Jewish" and "Semitic" interchangeable. It isn't helpful that "anti-semitic" is now most frequently used to mean "anti-Jewish", and I understand your confusion.

No No No No No
[Read the article: Should Florida and Michigan vote again? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Many commenters have stated that a revote in Michigan and Florida would solve the problem created when the two states voted early. Michigan and Florida did not cause the problem, they illustrated the problem. How on earth is the New Hampshire/Iowa get to go first rule fair? That is what the people in Michigan want to know, and that is why they risked losing their delegates- to show what is wrong with the system.
Michigan and Florida could agree to a revote, but I think scrapping the current unfair system should be a precursor to that agreement.

I know it doesn't matter..
[Read the article: New Michigan delegate compromise offered]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]but I can't stand how everyone says "the other candidates weren't even on the ballot", which is completely accurate, but no one ever mentions that they removed their own names.
