Original article: Camille's back!

My goodness, aren't we cranky?

My my my. Did somebody wake up cranky this morning? All this little letter-writers acting like 2yos--pitchin' fits, stompin' their feet, whinin' and screechin', threatenin' to hold their collective breath and cancel their subscriptions unless Salon kicks the big bad Camille out of the sandbox. Looks like about 100 people need a collective time-out. Or a big nap.

I haven't paid much attention for Paglia for, oh, about 10 years because there's not been much to pay attention TO but, dang, maybe I missed something because if she can get so many people riled up so quickly she (o, Salon's editors) must be doing something right.

Time to read her new column...

Nasty-ass grackles...

Yes, those birds are grackles and they are nasty-ass birds. Literally. Not only are they obnoxiously noisy but the damn things shit gallons and that stuff is toxic. I'm not kidding. If you park under a tree in or around downtown or UT you'll come back and find your vehicle covered in grackle crap. And then you must get to a car-wash--if left on your car too long that crap will fade your paint. I kid you not.

We love the bats, though, and I'm told they've returned from the winter hibernation in Mexico. :)

"Age is irrelevant if you're beautiful"

Just why is Carmen Dye's remark "skin-crawling"? Is there some narrow age range that a person must be within in order to be considered beautiful? If someone is too old or too young are they disqualified? Sophia Loren is pushing--how old?--75 or so and still gorgeous. Can young girls (or boys, for that matter) not be considered beautiful? Has Tracy never seen a beautiful baby? Tracy, understandably enough, seems to be concerned about the sexualization or exploitation of young people in the modeling and advertising industries but that is an entirely different issue from those of age and beauty. Now, then, can beauty be separated from sexuality? That is yet another question. But I agree with Carmen Dye--beauty, in and of itself, is irrelevant to age.

All that needs to be said about the Yankees and the Indians is...

...Dallas 25, Buffalo 24.

:)

Holy moly what a game.

Sutherland's sensuality...

Sutherland is not conventionally sensual or sexy--if by "conventionally" one means A&F-model-on-a-billboard-above-Sunset-Blvd sensual or sexy.

But let me give you five words.

Sutherland. Christie. Don't. Look. Now.

Kind of insidious, isn't it?

"...the Gay community cannot reproduce itself without recruitment" -- disigny

Incorrect, of course.

As long as all the straights keep reproducing, we'll keep being reproduced as well.

Maybe that's the REAL gay agenda. :)

Check is due...

The checks haven't all been mailed yet. Based on the last two digits of my SS# mine will be mailed the week of July 4th.

And is it just me or is it fucking ridiculous that because I filed electronically I now hafta wait an extra 4-6 weeks to get the damn money in the form of mailed check when the IRS already has my direct deposit information since I've done the direct deposit thing for the past 4 or 5 year, including--oh, yeah--THIS YEAR. Utterly fucking inefficient.

Original article: "Mamma Mia!"

You anti-Zacharek people...

...crack me up. Y'all sure do get your knickers in a bunch sometimes, doncha?

Her pan of "Dark Knight" generated 500000 comments along the lines of "Does she HATE movies?," "Why does Salon continue to employ this hack and when will they hire a REAL reviewer?" and "Whatever she says I just assume the opposite" blahblahblah. And this for a movie that 99% of you haven't even seen yet because it didn't open until today.

Then she dismisses "Mamma Mia!" and a few of you are STILL going on about "Knight."

And, yet, between her pans of "Knight" and "Mamma" she posted a highly positive review of "Before I Forget"--and not a single comment has been posted about that one.

Hmmm...y'all get the vapors when she disses The Most Anticipated Movie of the Summer but you have nothing to say when she likes a small, art-house, gay-themed movie. Wonder why that might be? I probably won't see "Forget" at the theater but it's definitely a rental for me.

Like Zacharek I wasn't all that impressed with "Batman Begins" and I suspect I'll agree with her review of "Knight" but that being said I'm going to see it Saturday. And, yes, Ledger is the reason. I love me some Christian (::pant pant:: "American Psycho") but unfortunately for him Ledgermania's leaving him in the dust. :(

And I do find the whole Batman/Joker--Order/Chaos--Two Insane Guys Who Are Two Sides of the Same Coin mythos fascinating. So, yeah, I'm there tomorrow.

Unlike Zacharek I'll probably enjoy "Mamma" though that one, like "Forget", is a future rental. Yes, it looks fatally silly and ridiculous and, yes, it's totally gay-ass (I too haven't heard that phrase in years) but so what? As somebody said they're weren't out to make "Sophie's Choice 2" here. It might be this generation's "Can't Stop the Music" but how is that a bad thing? :)

As for the dude who squashed his 8yo niece's interest in seeing "Mamma": he needs to be slapped.

Original article: Ranking Obama's final four

Where is Wes Clark on this list?

My first choice is Clark. Why is he not on this list?

And what's wrong with the popular Dem governor of Montana? Or Napolitano from Arizona? I hope Caroline Kennedy and the rest of Obama's VP search team are still vetting candidates and haven't narrowed a list to the four mentioned in the WaPo article.

But if I must:

Sebelius

Kaine

Biden

Bayh
