[Read more letters about this article: Here]I remember reading an article around election time, maybe even here, that cited a study that found families with boys are generally more conservative than families with girls. Basically, the families with boys have more of an interest in maintaining the status quo than families with girls, so I think your observation about the progressiveness of families with all girls may not be too far off.

I personally could not care less about your personal preferences or those of your progeny, but if Yellow Dog really wants to know more about this topic, s/he now has something to look into. It's really not your place to stop Yellow Dog's desire to explore this topic further by throwing in your family anecdotes, however fascinating you think them to be.

My great-grandparents immigrated to this country and since then their descendants have moved all over the US. One of the few things I have left from them is "feeling Catholic." Unfortunately, one of my main reasons for going to church is for a sense of community and I could never get that standing side by side with someone who believes the ONLY candidate a Catholic could vote for is Bush.
(Not that you said that, Sugarman, but someone else who posted here has folks like that at their church).

In fact, her butt is so tight, I doubt the truthfulness of the "I don't work out and only drink sugary drinks" statement. Isn't it possible that she's not telling the whole truth?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Perhaps the fact that the abortion movie was filmed in Flint, MI, Michael Moore's hometown, is a mere coincidence, but I think what is more significant is that Flint, MI is one of the most blighted and poorest cities in the country, thanks in part to the party the pro-life folks probably vote for religiously because of its anti-abortion stance.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Really. Anyone could master putting on make-up in an week or two, and that would include instruction or information on how not to look like a clown.
I suspect the target market for Barbie dolls is a lot younger than it was when I was a kid. My niece got one for her 1st birthday. So, basically, we're talking about little girls under the age of 8. There are probably a whole lot of other skills they should be spending time developing besides how to put on make-up.

If someone recognizes that s/he would not be a good parent, then isn't it better for her/him to not have a child? Not all the reasons would be "because I ams too self-absorbed." Some of the reasons may include lack of financial stability, lack of a reliable partner, or poor health of one or both potential parents. Simply assuming people who choose not to have children are selfish is a bit simplistic.

I don't watch Gray's Anatomy or Oprah and have never listened to a Celine Dion song all the way through, much less purchased a CD. And, I'm not stupid.
I don't have too much trouble with technology, even though I've never studied IT, so I'm not sure what "brought me down to earth," although I'm pretty sure I've been this way most of my life.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]In the 80s, all my friends dressed in preppy, JCrew clothes that were basically the same thing all the guys were wearing. In fact, we frequently swapped clothes with our brothers and guy friends. Make-up? I have tons of photos of my friends with little or no make-up and undone hairm (or, rather, hair free of products but lovely and healthy-looking). I don't think it was some big statement or anything.
Why can't this just be a trend? A reaction to the overdone fashions of late?

You make a good point. The sad part about this is that despite all we have in this country, women often still choose to systematically humiliate themselves. It seems like a slap in the face to those women in the world who have no choice at all in their suffering.
