I love vonnegut's work

Its all beautiful but I want to encourage everyone to read "Sirens of Titan." Simply stunning and complete.

Wag the dog much?

Brand! New! Terrorism and Al Queda link! On the day of Goodling's testimony?

adam and eve are hot!

That's awesome that adam and eve are so hot! I want to create a new race of people with eve, too.

It's funny that these poeple have thier head so far lodged up thier own (*ahem*) that they can't see they are projecting cultural sterotypes of beauty on to thier displays

wives and children?

Can that be verified? My god, how horrifying is that? Does John Yoo have a rational for that, too?

Thursday, June 7, 2007 11:20 AM

consider this...

If I</> was in sensory deprivation, i would probably try talking or singing to myself to stay sane. But after two or three days of that, if the CIA started talking to me while i was still restrained and had blinders on, I might not be able to discern between interior and external dialogues.

Or even, if the the CIA recorded me talking to myself, they could remix and play back my own word to say what they wanted to say and confuse me even more.

Do not underestimate either (1) the craftiness of the CIA or (2) the lengths to which a bureaucrat with unlimited funds will go.

i don't get the point here

This seems like a weak attack on mr. thompson. I don't really see the point. it seems more like a partisan hack than a valid politcal analysis.

good work

that's good reporting

can that be legal?

So many things are wrong here...

a non-profit defense contractor? What is that and how can that be?

and, why isn't this patently illegal? It seems to me civil servants being paid a salary by subsidiaries of governemnt contractors smells like bribes, even if you can't establish a clear quid pro-quo

2nd VP fpr Gpre a step down?

Really? 'Cause i'm thinking of a post-cheney VP where gore secretly controls the environmental agenda from an undisclosed location where he plans pre-emptive legislation against carbon emmitters. Gore could have secret meetings with with neo-green friends but not disclose this list of environemntal groups attending.

Mr. Gallegos is a person

Although Mr. Gallegos's injuries are obviously severe, don't forget that he is a person more than he is a symbol or a result. The man lives every day with his injuries and some of the comment's evident shock might have taken Mr. Gallegos by surprise, or been an unwelcome reminder of the obvious comparisons the commentors might have been making in thier own minds.

To me its obvious that this man sacrificed a lot for his country and even when we disagree with the president's policy, when you're dealing with a vet like this, c'mon, use the kid gloves.

The president did look at him, see the pictures on the http://bagnewsnotes.typepad.com/bagnews/ link. (borrowed from above)

neither nor

The most obvious thing to me is this is not a either/or kind of debate. They are both right, and Ms. Stienem can be forgiven a little journalistic exuberance in describing her life's work to create/defend/advocate gender equality.

sarcasm

hee hee.

Pointed, though. Obviously a terrible choice of words by the military's press corp.

"sniper fire of martgage crisis intervention" - heee hee. Daily show worthy.

Great reporting.

Keeep up the good work. We need this on NPR, CNN, MSNBC, the Daily Show and Colbert Rport now. (I didn't include those last to be ironic, i meant it seriously)

Exactly right.

slow news day?

This essay makes sense, and stuff...

Friday, August 29, 2008 01:46 PM

McCain really just changed the subject

IMHO, what we should really be talking about now was that #^&$&@ awesome speech by Obama last night and teasing apart how great it was, but instead the news cycle seems to have already moved on.

Original article: Quote of the day

No you idiots this is eactly what we need!

If we were republicans, we'd throw this up on every fox news program we could until the mainstream picked it up with the unstated, implied story thatthese people are a bunch of racists bigots and thier bigotry is why they can't vote for barack.

Now you and i know that this probably doesn't represent all republicans/McCain supporters, but we need to hammer this home: If you don't vote for barack, you're a racist bigot, just like this old lady.

We gotta go for the jugular.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 02:01 PM

this is kind of whiny

Don't get me wrong, i'm voting for barack.

Nonetheless, if Palin gets elected to the vice presidency, it will be a first, will it not? I guess the question is: is that to be celebrated, on some level; or does this triumph of feminism mean that we can finally, 'ala colbert, stop seeing sex? I'm guessing the former.

BTW, some atrocious grammar in the final paragraph and a misleading by-line in the letter section.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 02:12 PM

@ briannelson: a coded parable?

Is that right? That would explain that strange rambling story. If it is a coded parable, i'm surprised Colbert didn't p/u on it. Is he recasting a story from the bible?

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 03:27 PM

@tiberius is lurking again

among the mant sad thing about tiberius is that she's a "premium" member, which means she actually paid to my snarky comments about the rest of us.

Besides the fact of course, that she's trying to start a fight by making snarky comments while hiding behind her imperial psuedonym. Pussy.

Thursday, September 11, 2008 10:28 AM

where is biden in all this??

Is it just me or is Biden not really out there being the attack dog for Obama?

Friday, September 12, 2008 10:54 AM

Great lets keep the focus on McCain!

Did you know he also said that he is "somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have."

This is where the focus should be. Palin is a sideshow distraction.

More on mccain, please.

Friday, September 12, 2008 11:00 AM
Original article: "I fear for my country"

maybe true but beside the point

The point is, McCain is where we need to be focused. Palin, while a hot mess, is a sideshow.

Palin = Hot Mess

Original article: "I fear for my country"

@johandav you're an idiot

The press didn't anoint Obama - I did. Just like the millions of other voters did. Take your "the press did it" narrative and shove it up your lily white ass.

Meanwhile, COULD WE TALK ABOUT THE PEOPLE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT?! Palin is a hot mess freakshow.
