  • Those who speak do not know

[Read the article: "The Sopranos" prediction pool]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm also disappointed Salon asked some random (and clueless) individuals their advice on the season finale. I got nothing from Daniel Handler's unwitty response other than buttache.

The Sopranos finale, far more than a mere television show, is a uniquely American cultural phenomenon and event and to ask someone who strives to be purposely ignorant of anything remotely associated with The Sopranos is an insult to the creators and viewers of the show.

Far from being glued to the boob-tube, isolated in dark rooms fantasizing about living a life completely divorced from reality, I am a Sopranos viewer who - for the last 4 years - has spent every Sunday evening with friends and neighbors for our weekly "Sopranos Night" having fun, laughing, and enjoying each other's company in the context of watching the show. We turn this time together as way to catch up on the week, cook for each other, and talk about the show....which is one of the greatest American television shows - EVER.

This finale is important to me, my friends, and neighbors - so I can't understand why Salon would disrespect their readers who do follow and love the show by asking someone who is completely clueless about the show - and God knows what else.

Next time, ask Mr. Handler what he thinks of his books being printed in China by child laborers and leave the gabbagoo, the Whoa!, and the Fuggedaboutit to those of us who know and care.

  • Hearts and (Dirty) Minds

[Read the article: Spring break in Israel!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Without the hearts and minds (and money) of the American public, Israel wouldn't stand a chance in hell of survival.

These ads are a propaganda tool to support the foreign policy of America and it's support for Israel, rather than of Israel, it's tourism industry, or whathaveyou.

Fact is: the Israelis are just pawns and human placeholders for Western Power in the Middle East.

  • You're too respectful, Joan

  • Retraction

I just read Xavier's comment and I retract my previous comment: You're right Xavier. It's far too easy to revert to slurs that are at their roots (and as practiced) misogynistic and it's not the antidote to what angers us about the Ann Coulter's of the world. The antidote is reason and respect - as much as one can.

    Sorry y'all.

  • Sara Taylor is a liar.

    She's a dirty, rotten liar.

    She belongs in prison!

"I don't know why I keep reading Salon."

Ummm, because it stokes your faux-moral outrage?

"We hate you and your delicate analyses of our culture. We hate the lyrical way in which you celebrate our tragically corrupted authenticity, leavened only by the presence of the black angels whose innocent suffering will ultimately redeem our benighted region."

Oh get over yourself, Blanche. Or should I say, Scarlet?

"Stay up North, we don't like you."

    Doh!

  • Actually Guys, It's REALLY Obnoxious

[Read the article: My boyfriend is checking out chicks while I'm standing right there!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm a guy who's been around other guys, trying to have a serious conversation, and have had to fight for their attention because they insists on oogling the first piece of ass that walks by. If *I* get annoyed at it, I can't imagine how the wives and girlfriends of these men feel.

Frankly, it's a behavior that is obnoxious and tolerated far too much.

Stop acting like a dog, dude. And ladies, when you see your guy acting like this, call him on it right then and there! Snap your fingers in front of his face and beat him with a newspaper - dog that he is.

Real gentlemen don't do this. If they do, they're so discreet about it not to be noticed by anyone at anytime.

And if you're with anyone, for any reason, guy or girl, they deserve your full-time attention so put away the cell phone and the oogling eyes.

It will be as a man who used his talents for evil.

It's a good thing he's an atheist - I'd hate to believe I was going to hell for what I'd done.

  • On Not Making it "An Issue"

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"The Gays" are only saying out loud what almost every heterosexual is thinking anyway. Trust me, if gays and lesbians could just go about their lives without having to point out the obvious, we would. Gay sports, gay grocery stores, etc.: those exist because the majority created them, not us. Gay ghettos are still ghettos - places people are forced to survive in. Straights (for the most part) created the stereotypes, they perpetuate, support, and enforce them and reward "the gays" when they stay in line.

When, all of a sudden, the gays encroach on straight privilege, then everything has to be qualified as "gay so and so" - like "gay marriage", "gay athletes", "gay ministers", and "gay rights".

Of course, the reverse is true as well - "straight hairdressers" - but it's all in service to the dominant culture, ie., patriarchal, heterosexual society.

Frankly, I don't care about multi-millionaire sports stars and whether they bat for my team or not, but if an out gay man is making a whole lot of straight guys and gals uncomfortable by merely being on a team, then that's progress.

Maybe in the future it will mean less straight people will make such a big deal about who we are and, finally, mind their own damn business.

Or then, maybe they'll just act like they do in much of the world today - through beatings, stonings, lynchings, and religiously-sanctioned executions.

...on the condition that he works full-time at a job with health benefits and that you control his paycheck. If he wants to continued to be mothered, fine - just crank it up a notch.

Face it: pretty soon you're going to be old and he's going to be the one who has to support you. Might as well do what you can to make sure he has a good job and that he starts to support you early on.

Use his money to go on a 2 week vacation - by yourself.

Buy yourself a new TV - with his money.

Flip the roles - don't kick out your future meal ticket. Don't throw out the adult baby with the bathwater.
