Assuming science is wrong...
[Read the article: Inside the Creation Museum]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]dan sexton writes:
But evolution is not science. Neither is archeology and much of astronomy.
Well, of course those things are science, but never mind.
Let's assume that all current scientific explanations of how life came into being are 100% wrong. That somehow, with all of the science we've gotten right, using the exact same methods we completely bungled the origins of the universe.
Would this mean that a mythical or superstitious explanation must be correct? No. It would only mean that we have not yet found the correct natural, scientific explanation.
This is like forensic experts analyzing a murder scene and, being unable to determine the identity of the true killer from the evidence, throwing up their hands and saying, "God must have done it!"

Another fine summary
[Read the article: What you missed while watching "Deal or No Deal"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Brownback announces a new plan to partition the country.
Whew! When I read that, I thought for a minute he was talking about the U.S.!
This debate summary was just as funny and brilliant as the first. Thanks, Mr. Scherer. Please also write these summaries for the Democratic debates. They are no less deserving of your wit.

"A very liberal and progressive religion"
[Read the article: Sex and the married Muslim]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Islam is a very liberal and progressive religion....God orders that sex remains precious, like a pearl -- it's not just for everyone... I'm not very sympathetic with young women and girls choosing to masturbate. They're ruining their sexual future... I'm totally against homosexuality being considered a gene or natural. It's a sin -- they're just like the alcoholics and the drug-takers...In Islam, everything between a husband and wife is allowed sexually, except for two things: anal intercourse and intercourse during menstruation... this is a closed subject -- this is haram.
Oh, yes, very liberal and progressive. I hear they're even using smaller rocks for stonings these days!
In fact, there is no 'liberal and progressive' religion. They all revolve around oppression and humiliation to control their followers

Beliefs
[Read the article: "I think the best thing for me to do is just talk about the facts"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"[I]t is important for Russia and Russians to understand that I believe the Cold War ended..."
Reassuring, I suppose. But how is it always that facts are "beliefs" and beliefs are "facts" for Georgie and the Wingnuts.
Not to worry. If anyone can revive the Cold War, The Decider can!

"Us conservatives have been unhappy with the GOP for years."
[Read the article: Don't let it get you down]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Really? They have a funny way of showing it, because they keep supporting and voting for the GOP. Not to mention shouting down anyone who dares to criticize the GOP.
You can claim the Republican party is the lesser of evils (maybe not with a straight face, but you can), or that the Democratic party hasn't put forth candidates worthy of your vote, but that doesn't change the fact that you voted these guys into power.
They somehow think that conservative = republican = neocon = jesus freak.
Can't imagine where we got such an absurd idea.
The liberals... keep pushing us into bed with the neocons and fundamentalists.
You weren't pushed, you jumped. Now the party's over, you've got a hangover and morning-after regrets, and it's the liberals' fault.

Evita
[Read the article: Politics as unusual?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The future of political plays belongs to the next generation. How will they respond to the historic criminality of the Bush administration, its grotesque exploitation of 9/11, its deadly mishandling of the war in Iraq and efforts to boost executive powers to fascistic levels?
Well, consider what Andrew Lloyd Webber did for Evita Peron.

[Read the article: Give my petards to Broadway]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]deering:
I had all but given up on seeing Broadway shows because of the expense. Check out www.broadwaybox.com for tix discounted up to 50%. Good seats, too. Sure, 50% off $120 is still $60. Not exactly cheap, but more affordable.
MCE007 wrote:
I don't think the theater audience would court the crowd who watch "The Sopranos"... Tony Soprano represents a stereotype that even the actor himself is sick of... TV dwells in such idiotic stereotypes all the time. Will and Grace was the Amos and Andy of gay characters.
This coming season, Broadway is reviving Terrence McNally's 1975 play The Ritz. From Wikipedia:
The slapstick comedy [The Ritz] is set in a gay bathhouse in Manhattan, where unsuspecting heterosexual Cleveland businessman Gaetano Proclo has taken refuge from his homicidal mobster brother-in-law, Carmine Vespucci. As Gaetano battles to preserve both his life and his manhood, he stumbles across an assortment of deranged characters, including a rabid chubby chaser, go-go boys, a squeaky-voiced detective, and Googie Gomez, a third-rate Puerto Rican entertainer with visions of Broadway glory who mistakes him for a famous producer . . . and who he mistakes for a man in drag. Further complications arise when Gaetano's wife Vivian tracks him down and jumps to all the wrong conclusions.
I'm just sayin'...

[Read the article: Give my petards to Broadway]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Seats are available for orch. and mezz. For example, on Sun. seats were available 7th row cent. orch. for Tues. performance of "Grey Gardens" for $59 ($68 after fees). You can choose day, time, seating preference, etc. Seating charts are available so you can see where the seats are. You can order online or by phone. Tix come from ticketmaster or you pick up at box office. No standing in line for hours, no membership fees. Sooo much better than TKTS! I just found out about them, so I haven't ordered through them yet and can't give you first-hand experience, but it looks promising. I'm skeptical of "too good" deals, but they seem on the up-and-up.

George is NOT Nero
[Read the article: Bush's European disaster]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Nero passively fiddled while Rome burned. George is actively running around throwing gas on the fire.
[Europeans'] faint hope -- and it is only a hope -- is that they have already seen the worst and that it is not yet to come.
Lucky them. They have more hope than I do.
