Original article: Obama meets with House GOP

I'm unimpressed with Democrats

What is this we are doing exactly? Many of you here are carrying the same old tone that you decried the past 8 years. Sure, we don't need the GOP, we have a majority. Sure, "he won". Whatever.

All that matters is what the end result will be. The whole point of this is not to "win" but to build sound policy that works. Besides Obama, there is no leadership to speak of yet many people for some reason just accept what Pelosi and Reid say. Why are you so sure in believing in this poor congressional leadership?

Ultimately, will this stimulus bill actually do anything? What will the end result be? Sure, you rail against tax cuts but would the savings due to the contraception spending actually have been better? Will 800 million to clean up environmental spills stimulate the economy? What effect will 400 million to updating the Social Security computer center have on the economy? What in this stimulus bill is so inspiring that makes you believe it will do anything?

I continually get the feeling that democrats are supporting their party because "they won" rather than supporting good ideas based on sound principle. Sure, the GOP might be up to the same games but by not looking at what the Democrats are putting forth with a critical eye, no real change will result.

We need to stop jumping on the "we won" bandwagon to support Democratic policies and instead be critical of our Democratic leadership for once. Let's not turn into the drones that led our country for the last 8 years and really change government for once.

Original article: Don't cross Rush Limbaugh

That is pathetic

I actually agreed with what he said initially as I'm sure many of you did as well, regardless of whether you support a republican or not. The point was valid. Limbaugh takes cheap shots from the sidelines where you see all the angles yet have no responsibility for your actions.

It's pathetic that he didn't stand up for himself and his ideals. I'd rather be someone going down flaming by criticizing people like Limbaugh rather than compromise my principles.

This is suppose to be an emergency stimulus bill.

I agree with this statement by qazwart.

This bill seems too much of a kitchen sink approach to a serious problem. I'm not convinced this will do anything of measure. I'd love to be wrong but when I was watching debate on this, I heard members of congress that the green energy money is essential to the economy and our dependence on foreign oil. Sure, but why is it in this bill? It creates jobs? How? Is it enough?

We need targeted plans that stimulate sectors of the economy for long-term growth, not every government program we can think of that hasn't received funding in the past few years. There are avenues for that type of thing, it's called appropriations. This is not the place to get funding for the mall. I'm not going to argue that it's not needed, it is. But why this bill? Why now?

If you want to create a green jobs sector, then lets have a bill that does exactly that. No programs with three levels of relevancy like reducing child care costs for new workers in the industry. Lets focus on big ideas that make obvious differences that have noticeable effects.

Additionally, this bill should have 2 things in mind, is it effective and is it politically a net gain. I'm not positive it will be effective because yes, it creates jobs but what does it do long term? Is it really stimulating the economy in the ways it needs to?

Politically, if this is passed, American's will think it is the bill to SAVE the economy. It doesn't matter what it is or isn't, that's how it's sold. It's a Stimulus package to FIX the troubling economy. The current administration has pushed the urgency of this bill since the election so it is assumed to be that be all end all fix to our problems. It doesn't matter if it is, that's what people *think* it is. What happens if not much results because of it? What then? Will Obama's first "test" be a failure? There is that possibility. What happens for the next 4 years when he tries to pass the next bill to fix a major problem?

In my view this bill is a net loss to Democrats, even if we are the ones in power and can do whatever we want.

Maybe it wasn't a good bill?

Anyone think about that point?

Dems can do no wrong? Come on people.

acarsaid's point is valid

Switzerland may have been "neutral" but the did that by pandering to the Germans in every way possible to stay "out of the war".

This is a good story though regardless. Anyone telling O'Reilly he's wrong and then proving it, is good. I wonder if he eats this, apologizes, or tries to defend himself. I bet it's the last one.

bigguns

In my opinion, Heather is a bad critic. Perhaps horrible was a bit much but what else should I say? I'm not going to justify what others have already made perfectly clear.
