Original article: Bush misleads on ANWR

@Steve

Yeah, it's sad too. Most people don't bother trying to figure out fact from fiction and will believe the soundbite they hear on the nightly news.

I really wish politicians could be more truthful when reporting statistics and the like. You can spin things all you want, that's what is expected since people have different ideologies but misrepresenting facts is just wrong. I have some hope for Obama since he seems to do this more often than the others (not to say he doesn't do it as well). Most recently he mentioned the "gas-tax holiday" would save an average of 30 bucks over the summer, which is the norm by many people who analyzed the idea.

Sad, but Hillary is just exploiting people's ignorance

No disrespect, but honestly regular people do not understand the economic arguments of this idea. They only understand that their gas prices would go down so they'll hop on board.

Hillary knows this is a failed policy. Her windfall profit tax is also a failed policy. She is clearly doing this political pandering just to get votes. It's obvious to anyone that is somewhat educated on the issues.

The problem with this is that in an election year, you can't really give people the brutal truth of why gas prices are they way they are and their future. Simply put, we are reaping what we have sown. Americans need to get their wallets slapped and to make it hurt to realize that our energy policy is totally unreliable and not sufficient for our economy. Enough of this whining, crying and bitching about how you can't pay for gas anymore. Everyone is in the same situation.

What needs to happen is people need to get up and demand people actually look for long-term solutions to our reliance on oil for transportation. It is so clear to anyone that looks at the situation to see that our entire economy is reliant on the most volatile region in the world. Forget solar and wind energy, that doesn't power cars, trains, ships and planes. OIL does. We really need to work towards real solutions to our transportation energy issues and throughout this campaign no one seems to want to take it head on. Instead we get political pandering crap like this from McCain and Clinton and to be fair, little of nothing from Obama.

Perhaps it's not politically viable to tell voters that these high gas prices are going to be around for awhile and until we get a leader that implements a long-term plan, which means you won't see relief anytime soon, nothing is going to change no matter how much crying you do about it. However, voters need to wake up and realize this and soon or there will be bigger problems than not being able to afford to go on vacation this year.

A Waystation to a free college degree?

Right, because being in the military was easy. As someone who used up every bit of my GI Bill for first 2 degrees, I felt I earned every penny of that assistance.

Although it sure was easy to leave every other week on some workup or deployment to make sure we were combat ready, or to sleep in a metal rack in a room with 40 other people, or standing watch at all hours of the night, or working 18 hour days in the gulf where it averaged 100+ degrees.

Somewhere along the line McCain must have forgot what the military goes through day in and day out, regardless of service. This is simply inexcusable for him to support some bullshit like this.

"Operation Chaos"

Is there any credible evidence that this is even having an effect elsewhere and could have an effect here? I think history has shown that things like this never seem to affect a race regardless of the party.

Seems like some Obama supporters were licking their chops too soon

This makes me sad that as an Obama supporter many others would want to jump so quickly on something like this without trying to calmly figure out what the context and facts of the situation are first.

If you are going to cry and complain about people in the media and such constantly playing "gotcha" politics with Obama, then you need to rise above that sort of thing when it applies to Clinton. This is a perfect example of hypocrisy that Obama doesn't need nor is something we should support.

I've been waiting for this

The first season was wonderful. Something about seeing the visual aspect of the radio show was just...great. It really is something to see.

Katetex, I don't have Showtime either but you can download the episodes from ITunes. I'll have to wait till these get put up there before I can see them as well.

It's not free

Standard 1.99 a show. Total of 6 shows so about 12 bucks to see it.

Lets assume you are right.

Then what? We cut prices by getting rid of the tax. Then we put a windfall profits tax on the oil companies to pay for it.

Sounds great.

A year goes by and world demand is largely unaffected and the prices return to their regular levels. So now what? People are sure having a tough time at the pump, what should we do now? Lower the federal gas tax? Well we can't, it doesn't exist anymore.

That's the problem here, it doesn't really matter if it works or not. It won't offer any solutions to the real problem. Every time I hear suggestions like this (and we've seen in for years now), they neglect the fact that there is only so much room to affect prices. The tax is finite.

What we need is a comprehensive plan to our transportation energy needs. Either that, or people just have to suck it up at the pump and get over the fact that there are no quick fixes to the problem. So here's Hillary coming out with a quick fix measure that will do little overall and Obama disagrees with it, she's actually the better of the two? Come on. It's political pandering, plain and simple.
