What a simple species we are . . . of course I cannot condone firing

rockets into Jewish civilian communities, but what I've never understood is Israel's fear and desire to choke the life out a people who have basically nothing. Why the continuous cycle of disproportionate responses? What do some Israeli leaders think they can actually accomplish with this flawed strategy? Why is my country not commited every day first and foremost to facilitating an end to this madness?

Presumably much of the Arab world's ill will towards us is our unequivocal support of Israel's actions not so much its existence. The only thing more tragic is America's lust for empire. Beacons of peace, freedom, and democracy my ass. Can't imagine the great states of Israel and America look like anything more than sadistic oppressors to much of the world. I guess the humans who agree with and prostate themselves in front of the US and Israel are "good" while the rest subhuman and "bad". How typically Manichean.

I wish the people of the world would rise up en masse, refuse to work, and demand peace. Massive hunger/no-work strikes. Why aren't the major Christian religious leaders of the world inserting themselves and their followers into the fray as human shields for God and peace? Why aren't they denouncing all violence from the pulpit? The monumental hypocrisy of organized religion is stunningly obvious and predictable.

@ 5 man trio . . . genuine genius in our midst . . .

Seriously. Use of nuclear weapons would be brilliant. Isn't "anarco [sic] communist" an oxymoron? Not to be confused with a moron . . . like you. Shoo before you get swatted.

@ winsmith . . . "The Palestinians have had so many opportunities for peace. Israel bent over backwards, . . . "

Well according to Chomsky in Fateful Triangle that isn't precisely true.

All I'm saying is that much of what Glen writes on the subject of propoganda (domestic or otherwise), in particular concerning the I/P conflict, is poorly reported.

Chomsky documented, I believe quite convincingly, that what we hear, read, and see in the US is very different from what is written by some in the Israeli press and in Europe.

To suggest that only the leaders and people of Palestine are responsible for as he put it "rejectionist policies" is profoundly inaccurate.

There are many reasons (water, land, settlements, labor, markets, security . . . ) why the I/P conflict continues and I wouldn't begin to suggest some sort of ratio of fault. But what is true is that in the US, with very little exception, the conflict is always portrayed in the media one way and one way only which has very little to do with the actual actions of the participants.

I've always been curious because you brought up a very interesting idea, that the US seems to subscribe to, concerning "the responses" that seek to ensure American and Israel citizens are allowed to live in "peace and security". That being, the "ratio of retribution in number of deaths" that is "considered just" when an American or Israeli citizen is killed at the hands of a "terrorist". 10 to 1, 50 to 1, 100 to 1, maybe no fixed number just that required to temporarily stop the immediate threat and "restore a sense of peace and security"?

And since it is long past ever unraveling this problem by answering the "who started it" question (assuming it was ever relevant to the matter) do you actually think Israel's strategy will in fact yield long term results?

But what is true, as GG is courageous enough to document, is that the accuracy of the US reporting on the I/P conflict is factually and historically abysmal. And given how "special our relationship" with Israel is and how complicit we are in every death that results on either side, it would be nice to have a more accurate factual and historical record upon which to chart a course forward.

@ shooter242 . . . everyone here as said it at one time or another . . .

but are yor really as dumb as you seem? Taylor is being prosecuted. All anyone has ever asked is that Bush et al be held to the same standard they hold others accountable to in a court of law. Investigations and prosecutions for violations of law if warranted. Period.

Of course Bush et al would get the finest lawyers in America, full due process, and then let the chips fall where they may. Everyone, and I mean everyone (except you apparently) in the world knows American prisoner abuses weren't the result of a "few bad apples". Nobody in the military takes a squirt without being ordered or permitted to do so. There's ample evidence that the systemic torture regime was conceived, ordered and implemented at the behest of major players in the Bush administration. That you don't want to accept that fact makes it no less true.

Why do you hate America and the rule of law? Why are you so subservient to authority? Are currently taking prescription medication? Is it difficult to type with your knuckles? Inquiring minds would like to know.
