I don't have any problem with President elect Obama staffing positions with "competent" republicans (assuming there are any) who want to get on board and help us address some of the epic challenges we face in the next 20-50 years. That they provide "perceptual" cover is actually smart politics. But the corporatist first "centrism", "centrist" (see neocon) militarism, and socially "center" dark ages morality and civil liberty destroying assbackwardsness has got to be rooted out and quickly. As much as I'd like to see the malefactors of the prior eight years (GOP and Dem alike) held accountable, I'm more interested in making progress moving forward--whatever that takes.

I see our future as one of epic struggles for worldwide environmental/economic sustainability, social justice, and a return of stolen liberties. Labels are meaningless to the thinking population. Competent action on the above fronts is all that matters otherwise the whole kit and kaboodle will continue circling the drain. I personally get the sense that Sen. Obama's greatest gift, other than his intellect, is his temperament and his oratory ability (meaning salesmanship) which can take you a long way in politics. The average American voter right or left votes with his/her emotions not reason and that has to be leveraged to the maximum degree if we are going to turn this around. Otherwise, as the Chimp in Chief said recently "this sucker could tank". And I mean that in the slow motion civilization destroying sense I think most around here can appreciate.

The stakes couldn't be higher but assuming we keep our collective foots on the throats of the unreachable rapture seeking 30% ensuring they and their ilk are never allowed to combine their superstitious soul crushing social backwardness with the environmental and liberty crushing economically empoverishing power of the insurance/banking/advertising/fossil fuel industries, we might just have a chance.

Here's a little Q & A--which of the following entitles the "disabled veteran" to more money:

1. Sleep apnea cured with a CPAP machine at VA expense,

2. HSV I (herpes of the mouth) requiring acyclovir for treatment of periodic breakouts

3. a below the knee amputation.

Now keep in mind that the scheme is predicated on "average occupational impairment" of the disabled veteran. Here's a clue 2 of the 3 are entitled to between $600-800 dollars a month (tax free) for life for being 50-60% disabled while the other about $400 and some change for being 40% disabled.

Here's another clue, 2 of the 3 shouldn't even be taxpayer subsidized disabilities while one should be. Unless of course you believe I should pay for you not to wear a condom while screwing underage women in foreign countries while on government paid R&R or that I should pay you because you can't keep your obese jowled pie hole closed while you sleep in your taxpayer funded home, on your taxpayer funded bed, while helping your kids go to college on the taxpayer dime. I'll be monitoring my claims closely for anyone with an MOS of Hornet pilot. Can't say I'll be real inclined to give those claimants the benefit of the doubt given your representation of them as officers.
