@Publicola

I think you're spot on. I'm willing to bet most of the sites that are churning out the c/p material the more similar of the Pumas are using are owned by right wingers. I laughed when you posted the link to Flame Warriors - that site has been on my mind in the past few days of reading through some of these letters threads. My current favorite is linked to my name.

It has all the earmarks of a classic board war - I'd go so far as to guess some of the more abrasive Obama supporters are plants, too. It's pretty clever, if it's true. I bet all the sites, Red and Blue are crawling with sockpuppets about now - it IS silly season. I'm sure there are a more than a couple message board backrooms all a twitter with Dittohead busybodies with too much time on their hands, pointing and laughing at the silly liberals.

This could be a popcorn worthy summer on the old introwebs.

Thanks.

That was delightful. I'm sending that link to everyone I know.

Autism and Vaccines

I've worked with kids with autism for fourteen years, and I've seen this debate brewing from the beginning. I've also seen parents and caregivers bilked out of massive amounts of money for crackpot treatments.

Chelation therapy, as mentioned in a previous letter, is a great treatment for heavy metal poisoning. It's also an excruciatingly painful, violent process that's been played up as a common, simple medical procedure. I'd encourage any parent who was considering it to talk to at least three different doctors to confirm that your child does in fact have heavy metal poisoning before even considering putting your child through it.

I've known, loved and nurtured over 100 kids with this disorder; including four children who never received a vaccine in their lives.

The only theory I'll buy in this debate is that vaccines may hasten the development of an ASD that's already present. Choosing not to vaccinate your children is a much bigger risk - to other kids as well as your own.

I also find it interesting that the same arguments used to vilify evolution and global warming (science lies!) are used by the anti vaccine crowd.

@Chicago2

I work with lots of pregnant teachers. On behalf of them, I'd like to request that parents who do not vaccinate against Rubella consider homeschooling. We can suck it up when you send your kid to school with a rotten cold or a horrifying case of diarrhea. Asking us to risk the lives of our unborn kids b/c you think the pharmaceutical companies are trying to profit from giving kids devastating disabilities is a little much.

LW, You're a Crappy Friend.

I've been on the other end, and you should know that it hurts.

It really, really, really hurts and it doesn't go away. When a SO cheats with a stranger, that's one kind of hurt. When your SO cheats with your best friend, it's like getting punched in the head.

She knows he's a douche, but I bet she thought she could trust you, of all people.

I disagree with Carey. I think you should get away from both of them. You, quite frankly, don't deserve any friendship she would want to bestow on you.

Not Getting Vaccinated....

for a legitimate medical reason is not the issue she's addressing. The people she's calling to task are putting those of you (or your kids) who CANNOT be vaccinated at a much bigger risk. You are, in fact, the main reason why the majority of the rest of us should be vaccinated.

Sarah Haskins = New Girlie Crush

I just watched all the Target:Women videos on Current back to back, and I'm still choking on the laughs.

Farhad!

Great review. I dig on some classic MacGyver myself. Burn Notice on USA has some definite MacG undertones, combined with a smidge of The Equalizer. It's not quite the same, but it's a nice, modernized substitute.

Glad you stopped by. Always enjoyed your columns here.

LW

Yikes, what a pickle. It could be the neighbor saw what was on your computer screen without actually seeing how you were reacting to it... still not something you'd chat about on the playground, sure, but not quite as blush inducing as getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar.

It sounds like you have a great, supportive spouse who's as excited by your recent revelation to him as you are - that's wonderful! It also sounds like he's patient enough to wait until you're able to get the picture of your neighbor out of your head while you're trying to get busy with him. A keeper, for sure.

Talking to someone else you trust is a good idea as well, as Cary said, but it doesn't sound like this is something that will hinder your libido forever. We all have on and off times in our love lives, and embarrassing moments that temporarily put the breaks on in our heads. Give yourself some time and you'll be back to the feisty, sexy woman you were exploring before your neighbor invited herself into your office.

A closed sign is a pretty good idea, however... and a lock. : )
