Original article: Torture and the rule of law

Proud to be an American?

Not any longer. No longer a country under the rule of law.

And with a corporate media, what Bill Moyers has called the "fifth estate" that is part of the law breaking coverup, it will be a long time until the public realizes what has happened.

When is it too far gone to recover?

There was a solid design in our rule of law. Staggered elections. Balance of power. Freedom of the press.

We thought it could stand the test of time. When is the system so far gone that it cannot recover? How close are we to that place?

Provide a pdf link to the Ad

Glenn,

Great ad.

I can read it with a little trouble on my system.

Could you provide a pdf link so I can get the ad on a page or two and print it out?

Also, I signed up for the money bomb. Are we waiting until August 8 to donate? Can I send in money now?

How many more times to see that they broke the law?

The Democrats cannot run and hide from this behavior.

Keep the pressure up on them to do the right thing. It will be interesting to see Obama's position clarified.

dems continue the coup de etat

they are swept along with the tide

it has gone so far that

it is now radical to stand for the constitution

Barak said he was different. FISA shows that he is not different.

What is going on behind the stage?

or has the coup de etat has progressed farther than (I, we) realize?

Will Obama rise or fall on this issue?

I have been pissed several times at Paul Krugman's attacks on Obama. Not any more.

Obama knows better than this. At least, I thought this this was true. Was I just naive?

Will Obama pull victory from the flames of defeat by saying some words about the "compromise" and then follow this up with a compelling arguments in support of the Constitution in the Senate debate? This seems to be an easier speech to write than his landmark speech on race relations he gave in Penna.

Am I hoping for a miracle for something like this?

If a sound defense of the constitution cost a candidate the presidency, our form of government would never recover.

Barak Obama take up this issue?

What are the chances that he could take up this issue as an example of the security state and links to corporations.

How can this issue be brough to the right level of attention to his campaign?

Keep it up Glenn! War with Iran?

We may not have the money of the top 5% of the population, but we can pressure elected officials to not give away away our constitution to the highest bidder.

The rule of law is in tatters as the coup de etat continues. Bush is desparate to keep the thing going.

The only thing that has the chance for McCain to win is to start a war with Iran. Nothing the right wing is doing makes sense except when seen as a way to maintian their power. Bombing Iran is one of the big acts they have left.

Look at Bush's interview with NBC. They want the attack on Iran to be as a result of some fluke (probably manufactured) and don't want Bush on record about it.

The Politics of lying

was a classic article by the political theorist, Hannah Arendt.

It takes more effort to lie because one has to remember all the lies that build to the house of cards of lies.

I have been waiting for years for the house of cards to collapse.

The pentagon propaganda may be an issue to knock down at least a part of the house of cards. Somehow the whole house has been able to stay upright so far.

Trolls in the sandbox

Wow!

Lookie at all the trolls here today!

The issue is the media, and these trolls, true to form, play out the right wing play book. Try to change the subject to trivia. Try to get people worked up about the most important issues in the universe - flag pins and Rev. Wright.

They are getting worried about Glenn's insights and the people who follow this page. When Glenn gets quoted in the NYT one has to get worried that the readership might become even wider and fear upon fear, the main stream media might actually start doing a little bit of its job.

I just made up some small sheets of paper which I hand out to people after I talk about politics. Sheets are a link to this page. I tell them that no single place has more insights than Glenn's columns and encourage them to follow it and to get his new book.

Post on another page first?

Glenn,

Maybe the web wizzards at Salon.com could give you another place to post the blog first - one that simulates the actual post. Then you could read it exactly as it appears here.

After it is edited, you could then post it in the regular spot. That might reduce an error or two.

Keep up the excellent work. The errors in the early postings are no big deal.

Hillary shows the depth of GOP reach

I would not have guessed that the Hillary campaign would be another demonstration of how far the right wing has taken over the government and the public dialogue. Hillary is playing the game of the republicans and we need to change that game if we are going to even have a chance of restoring our republic.

I just donated for the AD against democrats.

Jewish voters tend to be well informed

We can't expect the main stream press to cover an issue this "complex." Not a rational policy discussion of the middle east for our personality and trivia driven media which give to Americans "what they want" just like any other product. No need for Americans to understand our foreign policy and the implications for it to our domestic policy and our economy.

However, the Jewish voters tend to be well informed so columns like Glenn's coupled with strong statements from Obama have the chance of turing this issue into one that is actually heard. Maybe even Al Frankin can use this as a campaign theme as well.
