Mr. Grieve,
You seem conflicted about the intensity with which the blogger-types make their entirely legitimate criticisms of the God awful mainstream "journalists". Let me remind you of something, the difference between the bloggers and the "journalists" is that the journalists are cowardly, careerist frauds and the bloggers are passionite, committed and wear their politics on their sleeves (something by the way journalists did a long, long time ago before the "profession" because a profession and before reporting the news became "journalism" with its high paid positions and reputation of "nuetrality" to protect). Bloggers are who they are and make no pretense to be something they are not. Mainstream "journalism" is a business enterprise beholden to corporate America in which reporters cannot get ahead by reporting the news any longer, but instead must go with the pack to further their careers and likewise in appearing not to be liberal. The bloggers have revived debate and inquiry in the public discourse that "journalists" have all but suffocated. Bloggers don't put on blinders and act as though they cannot understand which is worse: an illegal and immoral war or a fucking extramarital blowjob! No, I don't share your empathy for the feelings of the careerist, cowards who are the mainstream media. Not one bit. And you shouldn't either. If "journalists" start doing their jobs and reporting the news no matter whose ox gets gored then perhaps we can once again start having some sympathy for them. But as long as they continue to shill for the corrupt and powerful corporate interests who pay their salaries but don't admit that is what they are doing then with all due respect all I can say is: fuck em.
I wish Salon and other news outlets would quit saying that if the goverment is spying on private citizens without warrants that it is "possibly" illegal. It is totally and obviously illegal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, if something else is going on in the secret room in Bridgeton then it's a different kettle of fish. Yet, I will repeat, it is totally and obviously illegal if the government is spying on the private communications of US citizens without a warrant. Period. Everyone, but journalists in particular should quit pussyfooting around this stark reality.
