Try Blue Mountain

Not the greeting card company, but the band based out of Oxford, Mississippi.

Try this link to download a free concert from their June 9 performance at Proud Larry's.

It's a big zipped file. The best cuts are Generic America, Bloody 98 and Stop Breaking Down.

Here's the link

What are you thinking?

Daily Download was one of the best features of Salon. This is not an upgrade. It is a downgrade.

Instead of daily hits from my computer address Salon will now have to be content with a once a week hit.

Poker is still fun and profitable

I don't know where to start with Burton and his sad experience with today's poker. Most of the previous response writers have pretty much summed up why his commentary is wrong.

The advent of online and televised poker is the best thing that has ever happened. Sure there are more players in the local casino games that have a clue, but there are plenty more fish to fry who've played online and watched the WSOP on television who think they are now experts.

Besides if Burton doesn't like all in no limit poker there are lots of limit games being played in every card room both live and digital. I'm not sure Burton could even beat the limit games either because using game theory, math and psychology are keys to beating those games too.

I'm not some young internet hot shot. I've played for nearly 40 years. I was a wining player years ago and I'm still cashing in live games and tournaments.

Please do some fact checking

In the Mississippi Coast Reovery story

State officials predict casinos will bring in a record $3 billion in revenue to the state this year, 10 times what it was in 2006, when they earned a little over $300 million.

Try this link to the Mississippi State Tax Commission site and see there is no way there will be $3 billion in revenue to the state. $330 million, but billion is in another league

I was there for the speech

A little background. I grew up and still live about 20 miles from where the 3 civil rights workers were buried. I remember the times. There were not nice for lots of white folks, too. My family was threatened by the Klan. My cousin had a cross burned in his yard because his father was on the local school board. The first person I ever voted for was Charles Evers (Medger's brother) who was running for governor. I never voted for Reagan.

In addition to all that I've been going to the Neshoba County Fair now for close to 50 years. It's a great event that is the most important political speaking event every year in Mississippi. That was the over riding factor for Reagan to choose to speak at the Fair.

I was there for Reagan's speech though I don't remember much of what he said. I do know that I was glad he came. It was a big event.

What I don't like is the attitude that politicians should not campaign in Mississippi because of the state's past. It is not racism, but it is a snobish attitude of "I'm better than you."

Sure, the past is never dead. We can't forget it, but let's remember that times have changed. The largest employer in Neshoba County and the county where I live is The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. The most powerful political figure is Meko (Chief) Beasley Denson.

I'd love to see another candidate come to the fair next year. I don't care if they are Democrat or Republican. However, it is not fair to the candidates, the local people or even the State of Mississippi for the chattering class in New York to look down on those who wish to campaign here for an awful event that took place over 40 years ago.

You've never heard of poofing your hair?

My mother used that term 30 years ago to describe lifting an area of hair to give it a look of more body. I've heard the word from hairdressers many times since then.

You are the immature person for jumping to the conclusion that the term is somehow used to describe Edwards as a homosexual.

Yes, Glen, You've Been Exposed

Seriously, now does it feel to be exposed as a fool time and time again?

Poof...I'm gone...er, should that be pouf?

I now count at least 8 other references to poof in relation to hair. There was even a dictionary reference that should satisfy you.

I'm not going to argue about the level of Noonan's hate or idiocy. She displays those qualities often enough in her own writing.

I will hold you to a high standard of writing and thinking. Just accept the fact that Noonan MAY not have had homosexual overtones when she used the word poof. Remember, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Barracuda - The Song?

Didn't the flesh eating fish named Barracuda come into existence long before the Wilson's wonderful song? Just because they wrote about Barracudas doesn't mean they now own the rights to anything Barracuda.

I guess they need the publicity. Heart was a wonderful group with several nice releases, but they sure seem stuck lately on classic oldies radio formats. I liked Joan Jett better anyway.

What were your pot odds?

Bad call. Unless there was way more than the $1,400 you mentioned in the pot then you did not have odds to make that call. You even knew the heavy breathing meant he had a hand.

I have a feeling you will get numerous invitations to join some of the other underground clubs because of this story.

Go down to your nearby book store and get Dan Harrinton's series of books on cash game play. They are worth the investment for you.
