    [Read the article: Northern exposure]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well....hopefully getting a little taste of our American style Fascism will put our friendly neighbors to the north on a path to backlash with us. The bright side of the last six years is that it has opened the eyes of a lot of people to the actual agenda of the right wing (perpetuating, elevating and maintaining the aristocrasy), and the world is poised to possibly make some huge progressive strides forward, which can in fact snowball....the institution of universal healthcare reduces the ability of "the man" to bully workers with the threat of loss of job and benefits.....newly empowered, workers can take steps towards things like collective bargaining...next thing you know, there could be powerful unions forcing these fucking corporations to bring the jobs back from the third world.......

All conjecture of course, and not particularly on topic but.....

I don't think there is too much fervor to go out and vote for the guy here on this board.

What appears to be causing all of the excitement here is that out of what should be one of the deepest darkest holes of jingoistic, illogical, irrational, reality denial, comes a fairly strong blast of sanity.

My only concern about the validity of this indication is that the data gathering methodology used was text messaging, which may skew young, and the elderly (median Bill O'Lielly viewer is 63)vote in disproportionate numbers.

  • Knock Techno if you want....

[Read the article: Why do gyms play such crappy music?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It knocks the hell out out "cock rock" at all times including working out....the odd bit of Doors, or Ozzy now and then was about all I could cope with.

My gym played 103.5 Classic Rock out of Chicago until they closed down...I wonder if there was a correlation.

  • Regarding "anonymous"

    [Read the article: "Sicko"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The "we are too big to encompass socialized medicine" is the biggest crock of shit known to man......someone mentioned economies of scale...I can make it even simpler and straightforward......does not a 747 fly by the same science as a model airplane?

Me personally....working on picking up French in Montreal for a couple of years before popping off to the south of France.

  • There is...

[Read the article: The sub-slime that ate Wall Street]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

a kind of poetic justice in this. The subprime lending industry is basically a fuckover from the monied capital class to the lower and lower middle......we'll get you in your dream house, but you have to sign your life over at sodomy level interest rates to get it....de facto enslavement in exchange for shiny baubles (confession--I fell for this..or at least got forced into falling for it).

Seeing this coming back to bite them in the ass over it pretty much makes my year

  • The honor of a historical first....

....very deservedly goes to Keith Olberman.

  • I have to believe

[Read the article: There's always Nixon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That the situation is different. In the less media saturated world of the early 1970's, there must have been a higher percentage of the population not distracted by the antics of Paris Hilton et, all. Even with one point of difference, this is still an apples to oranges comparison.

  • What can one learn serving as a low level soldier during a war?

[Read the article: Rudy and Romney: Artful dodgers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"I'm sorry to see the usually astute Conason playing this silly game. Serving at some low level in the army has nothing whatever to do with ability to conceive and execute sensible policy. Since that's the only issue that matters, how about focusing attention on it?"

How about "The deaths of poor men's son's are not simply blips on a radar, or ink on a page, but blood, fear and pain"

    or

"People who aren't like me...even those with (gasp) brown skin who speak a different language and pray to a different got aren't necessarily "evil".

  • Ex Stockbroker

[Read the article: "Real Estate Rookie" tells all]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I laughed out loud reading this. An ex-financial advisor, I'm well acquainted with the "Bull Market Genuis". If the stock goes up, I'm a genius....if it goes down, you're an idiot. At least she cops to it.

Also, this reminds me of one little quirk in the American psyche. It's been my experience that large large portion (possibly a majority) of us prefer to deal with (reward) a personable incompetent, than a socially awkward guru. I see this in my mechanic, physical trainer, computer guy........all scarily competent, and with the exception of my computer guy who found a little niche where he doesn't really have to sell to eat, all "starving".

I would even go so far as to say that there tends to be an inverse correlation between personability and technical compentence.

Recently, this opinion of mine was validated somewhat by an old episode of "This American Life". A nurse, upon being told by a patient's son that he really liked Dr. X, informed him that as a general rule, the more you like a doctor, the less likely you should in actuality be to want him to treat you.

    So it isn't just me.

That deal must have been very stressful for the little authoritarian freaks:

"Hey, he's saying stuff we don't agree with."

"Yea, but he's our LEADER. They are always right"

"Hey, he's saying stuff we don't agree with."

    "Yea, but he's our LEADER"

    Repeat dissonant loop to infinity
