Whenever I hear the diatribe about Obama being the Manchurian candidate for Islam, I always respond that we have no idea what kind of brain washing McCain underwent in Vietnam. For all we know, he is the true Manchurian candidate for the Vietcong...
What a sad joke this campaign has become.
Nice speech... please forward it to the Obama website, asap!
I'm glad to see the Commission on Presidential Debates isn't falling for any of this crap.
Incurious, uninformed, wallowing in their ignorance... do we really expect anything from these people other than to vote for the white guy?
Yes, that is directed at those who think Hillary would have done any better. Sorry, you're deluding yourself... the only reason Palin is palatable to these people is because she is in the #2 spot... right where the woman should be, next to her strong (white) man.
And before you attack, I would have been happy with either Hillary or Barack or any of the other more highly qualified white guy Dems running... even that adulterer Edwards! But you can't reason with people who refuse to engage their brain cells.
The sun will rise tomorrow...

"Clearly, McCain thinks Palin will help him among women, particularly those disaffected Hillary Clinton supporters who are having so much trouble "getting over it." It just shows how clueless the McCain camp actually is. Unlike Clinton and Ferraro, Palin hasn't been a strong national voice on women's issues. She hasn't been at the barricades, fighting for women's health, equal pay, economic security. And she certainly hasn't had anything to say about the national-security issues that are also important to women across the political spectrum. Does the McCain camp really expect pro-choice Democratic and independent women to be swayed by a sleight-of-gender?"
Couldn't have said it better.
I thought Hillary was crystal clear:
The country cannot afford more Bush/McCain/Republican policies.
Campaign hard and vote for Obama.
There is no hidden message... no other meaning in her speech. If there were, then all the idiotic meme of the MSM would be correct about her, and I don't think it is.
I really don't know what else she can do to convince everyone she is 100% for Obama with no ulterior motives or hidden messages.
I posted it in HuffPo and I'll post it here:
As soon as I hear Mark Penn and company give up their $4+ million claim for "consulting fees", I will immediately send in my $5.
Thanks for a nice Friday morning respite... I always look forward to reading your weekly article over some good coffee. It makes me so grateful I don't have any business travel in the near future.
So the masses will remain ignorant of any McCain flip-flopping or hypocrisy or elitism or etc etc...
But what to I know? I'm just another whiner.
...this is so depressing. A recent poll stated 59% of *Floridians* support drilling off of Florida's shores. And for what? The "psychological effect", as McCain would say? Our state is strapped enough economically, and what would an oil spill in the Gulf do to tourism, which is the life and blood of the state economy? What a bunch of idiots... Talk about lack of long term planning, lack of logical thinking, and lack of caring about anything other than your wallet right here right now. It just infuriates me.
What is it going to take for this country to get serious about these issues?
Sorry if someone has already pointed this out in the 340+ posts, but bringing up all the other Dems that had fought to the convention floor as some argument for what Hillary should do now is getting tired. There is a big difference between now and then: (1) we didn't start the primary race so early (15 months!!) and (2) we didn't have such a huge numbnut in the white house.
This isn't about Hillary or Barack, it's about getting the country out of the hands of the corrupt, evil, money-grubbing hoard currently in charge. If Hillary's supporters cannot see this without "wooing", then there is no hope for them or this country.
Et tu, Broadsheet?
She will never concede until Obama offers her the VP spot. If he doesn't offer it, she will go to the convention and demand it. She and her ilk are going to argue it's the only way to unify the party... hopefully Obama won't fall for it.
I don't know what it is about this series or this movie that attracts such vitriol... don't even bother going to the IMDB message board about this movie, unless you want to read about what whores women have become explicitly due to this series. It's a joke.
Either you like the show and the characters or you didn't. If you didn't, fine... you're not going to convince the rest of us to change our minds. Each show was worth waiting for -- yes even in the off seasons -- and I can't wait to see the movie this weekend!
From NYTimes article (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/23/science/space/23soyuz.html?_r=1&ref=europe&oref=slogin):
"Mr. Gerstenmaier said there had been a problem with the Soyuz descent module separating as planned from a propulsion module. This was the second consecutive Soyuz re-entry with a separation problem, he said, noting that a return last October also ended in a steeper-than-normal “ballistic re-entry.”"
But there weren't any women on that flight... who will they blame that incident on?? :)
You can argue that this is a stupid statement from an old Russian man who can be ignored... but remember that when the shuttle program ends in 2010, these men will be solely responsible for all Astronaut/Cosmonaut transportation to and from the Space Station.
So if they decide there cannot be more than one woman on board the capsule, who's going to be able to veto them?
... why?
Thanks for the beautiful response.
Well said.
