I have to say it's possible that mother would not have intervened. Memories of mother coming into the bathroom do not make this an innocent situation. She could have been in denial and wanted to ignore what was going on under her nose... just a thought that this is a possibility....

This article/review/book has the bottomless ring of perfect truth about it. Osama knew what he was doing, striking the U.S. when he did, during the stolen reign of Bush. BIn Laden's goal was simple, to launch the opening salvo of World War III. If he had done so during a Clinton or Gore presidency the response would have been far more measured. Now as I watch the results of Bin Laden's evil plans my heart breaks, seeing these two forces in deadly collision and feeling so helpless to stop the loss of lives and treasure. The future is truly a perilous unknown and we need leadership equal to the challenge. Bush seems so small.

It has been strange watching Bush flail around this spring as his ratings plummet, he seems so small. People are turning sour on him and his Operation Iraqi Quagmire. Just wait till the taxpayer is presented with the bill: estimates run to at least a trillion dollars. I'm sure that the tax hike to pay that off will be very popular. And don't fool yourself, it's coming folks. We can't keep borrowing forever. So many lives have been ruined that people want to know why this happened. Tuesday Bush was asked point blank: why did you invade Baghdad? His final answer was that Saddam kicked out the inspectors: wrong! This seems to be a myth that has taken root in Bush's mind, but really in the months before invasion there were 2000 inspectors in Iraq. We need true leaders in this country and Bush has got to start telling the truth.

You pick the bad players with the best chance of getting the most playing time (Hello Eric Milton) and you spend the season rooting for them to get bombed. You even get to make up a cool name for your team; last season's winner was the Super Karate Monkey Death Car team! So I recommend that everybody go pick your players to achieve the highest ESPN scores and root for my team, Clyde T's Plutonauts! WOOHOO GO PLUTONAUTS! Mark Danner certainly clears up one thing I've been wondering about... why wasn't there a plan for what to do after we toppled Saddam? I guess I never put it together that Chalabi would be installed, and when that was put aside we were then left adrift, Bush/Cheney unable to come up with an alternative. So meanwhile, we let the future terrorists and agents of civil war clean out all those weapons depots (Rumsfeld had a rather clever dismissal of the problem of looting that I don't recall) and prepare to blow the golden dome in Samarra sky high, and also trigger today's bombings which will, I greatly fear, have a similar impact as far as triggering future strife, despair and bloodshed. Add to this volatile mix the provocative torture and murder in Abu Ghraib and other local prisons, the prevailing distrust between Sunni and Shi'ite and also the willingness of other players like Iran and Syria to assist provocation and murder, and you have civil strife that seems to be proceeding towards war with a Faulknerian inevitability. I truly don't know what policies would proceed from "reality based" decision making, and I really look forward to seeing the rest of Mr. Danner's article. I only hope that somebody somewhere can see a way forward out of the greatest foreign policy disaster in the history of the USA.

The Disappearance by Philip Wylie is a 1960's era science fiction novel that explores what happens when the world splits into male and female halves. The account alternates views between the world where all the males have disappeared and the one where all the females have vanished. Chaos ensues in both places. So this isn't exactly original, but it could be mildly enjoyable... I vote that they should go back in six months and shoot the same show with the menfolk having been removed.

I'm pretty sure you aren't hearing any serious candidates calling for cuts in farm subsidies.
