The article didn't say that people getting married didn't want kids, but that it was no longer listed highly as a contributor to a successful marriage.

Having kids is a stress on marriage, and can bring out all the flaws in a marriage you might not have noticed, if not for the stress of kids.

I am happily married with kids, who I love and wouldn't give up for the world, but they are not what makes my marriage a success, I am not defined by my kids, and nor is my marriage. Once upon a time women/couples didn't have individual identities they were just someone’s parents, or potential parents.

The world view has changed. Having kids doesn't make you a good/bad person. You do. People didn't see it that way - not that long ago. (Obviously alot of people still see it that way) women were just breeders, and their value and identity were based solely on where they were in the breeding cycle, going to have kids, have kids, going to have grandkids.

We've come along way, and this is a reflection of that change of world view. It doesn't mean people no longer want or value kids - it means if they have them its because they desire kids, not just because that’s what you have to do. Welcome to the new century we no longer live in a 1950's fantasy world - that the conservatives so desperately want to force us all to return to.

Look how wealth and salaries are - women have less money than men. And it is not traditional in couples in the US for the women to have control of the family purse for big ticket items, like giving to politians.

And no we are not in the same school, but this year I found out my daughter was being greeted by loud questions of "why are your breast so big?" in band class everyday, and now she has quit band. Since no one did anything (and she didn't tell me) the boys kept escalating to see what they could get away with, they went up to spitting on her, and a friend.

Unfortantly for them, they were seen by a teacher. Spitting on people is assault. We told the school, after hearing how she'd been tortured all year by these boys, that we want to file charges. No I don't think it is over board, they ruined her year, they made her hate band, and they made a bubbly happy girl, upset with her body. If I had gotten my hand on those kids, I would be going to jail - gladly.

The school asked to talk to the boys parents first - unlike the boys parents in the article, these parents were horrified, and completely floored that their kids could do this. These kids missed graduation, everyone in the school knows what they did, and next year they are under a one year rule that if they talk, harass or make my kid or the other girl uncomfortable at all - they will be kicked out of school, and we have the option of pressing charges then. Also I have it from the parents, the torment those boys will suffer over the summer, satisfies my outrage. If however, the parents didn't care, or told me it was no big deal - like these kids parents did - I'd have filed charges too... the issue here isn't the kids, its the parents who are from Texas who don't think what their boys did is a big deal, and that pissed off the mom of one of the girls who didn't recant, and didn't want to be touched.

And this boys will be boys crap, is no excuse, being human vs an animal is the ability to learn to control our impulses. Hell we want to pee everywhere, but we learn to do it only in certain places, because society doesn't tolerate public pissing, if grown men really thought it was important, they'd teach the young boys not to behave like this in public.

What I'd like is to be able to block the trolls - so that I don't see their postings, if other people want to see them fine.
