Its not about deporting people, nor was that stated in the article or my earlier comments. Its about communities publishing what they consider the minimum standard of public behavior (even if they are not all living up to it) - and making sure that new comers understand about the communities they are coming to before they are here and put down roots.
The Dutch did it because their citizens were being murdered by religious fanatics that are against the culture of the country they moved to of their own free will. This upset alot of Dutch, so they now go to the countries that are the source of the immigrants and ask do you really want to move here, because this is what we believe in, and we expect you to respect that, and obey our laws - even if it goes against your beliefs if you move to our country. And you will go to jail if these practices which are ok in your country, happen in ours.
Being tolerant, doesn't mean I put my life and liberties in danger to an incoming population that doesn't approve of my way of life. I don't want to be attacked on the beach if I wear a bikini, I don't want a girl in my daughters school murdered by her family, if she loses her virginity.
The real question is how can you be tolerant, and understanding of other cultures, and religions that are not tolerant of yours, and think certain acts of violence are ok? When does your tolerance become an unacceptable risk to your own safety? When does your tolerance end? - removal of girls private parts? Arranged/forced marriages? Acts of terrorism, honor killings, is everything ok as long as its "their culture"?... and we should be tolerant, do we stop when they hurt people outside of their group? Never?
Honestly - thats what the discussion is about - how do you remain an open and tolerant modern culture if you don't except all people as possible new comers, but then what do you do when the new comers cultural/religious backed behaviors clash with the fundamental founding principles of your country, and threaten civil order and public safety. What happened to the melting pot ideal, vs todays people come here and don't assemulate into being Americans or Canadians - but retain their alliance/identity to the country and culture they came from.
A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost.
He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted,
“Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.”
The woman below replied, “You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude.”
“You must be an engineer,” said the balloonist.
“I am,” replied the woman, How did you know?”
“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is, technically Correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far.”
The woman below responded, “You must be in Management.”
“I am,” replied the balloonist, “but how did you know?”
“Well,” said the woman, you don't know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault”.
--any engineer can give me logical specs, and I can write the software no matter how difficult the problem. Because the spec will be well thought out, logical and have no fuzzy bits. But if the specs come from HR, sales, the so called communication departments, the software will be a nightmare, because the specs will be buzz words with no concrete meaning, i.e. how fast is fast? Don't put adjectives in your spec, spell out the meaning of everything, or you won't get what you want... but that is too difficult a concept for all the business folks I've dealt with - basically they can't communicate without adjectives and they can't define what they mean when they use them. (It's like you know!! No, I don't know and neither do you) Non-engineers are very poor communicators, and they don't even know it.
Which is why you have coders, and people who are more than coders , they also understand the business, and can translate the fuzzy feel good language into a logical structure. Which is why you need in-house people, and your entire IT department can't be in India, because you don't know what you really want in your code, but your IT people if they also really understand the business side of things, can translate it to the other coders for you. That is your only hope. Or take a couple of logic courses... and learn to say what you mean without adjectives, and colorful cultural language. I can understand an algebra book written 100 years ago, but a short story takes more work. Specs should be like algebra books , not marketing spreads.
