@Christina Stroz

Whether she is or is not feminist does not concern me half so much as her competence.

Can you honestly say she is the most competent and experienced person to hold the job she's running for, let alone the one she might have to step into?

Not "good enough." Not "more experienced than Obama." But The. Most. Competent.?

Incidentally, in response to your earlier post, the clothes the RNC has been generous enough to provide the Family Palin are very attractive. The accounting treatment should be interesting.

Once you finish finding conservative websites, you might come up with your own opinion, if you're not wearing an updo, long underwear, and a pastel shirtwaist dress.

Yes, I know. That was nasty. Inept thinking does that to me.

@Oh, Daddo, Poor Daddo

You realize that all those names you're invoking mean that you've reverted to magical thinking? If you're a Christian, that's a no-no. If you consider yourself any kind of intellectual, that's just plain -weak-.

And if you've reduced your expectations for President from the best possible candidate to "damage control," that's an appalling statement to hear from someone I suspect would consider himself a "true" American.

Really, DO people give you positive reinforcement real-time for this sort of verbal claptrap?

You don't want the best possible candidate. You want a placeholder.

And you invoke a string of names again. Presumably, with an anti-Muslim subtext. What a piece of work! You know, sticking your fingers in your ears and saying "la la la, I can't HEAR you" is more sophisticated than this because it's only childish, not suspicious.

Hell no, I won't Go

I was born in the Midwest. I live in New York City.

This is my country. THIS is my city. It's not theirs. If they won't play nicely, I won't, either.

I managed through Nixon, Reagan, and both Bushes.

I happen to love this place. I don't always what it officially does, and there are parts of it that scare hell out of me, but this is home.

You don't change your home the way you do your shoes because something else seems more chic.

I've got some German, some Old Norse, and a good ear. I'd adapt. I'd also be an exotic.

I'll stay where I am.

Just one thing

Maybe you should remain single at this time of life. Maybe you should remain single permanently. While you're doing what's right for you -- as you certainly should -- also be sure that you explain kindly and gently to the man who has given you a gift of love. Unless he plays headgames, this is a great gift and should be treated with respect.

Licenses

I wonder if the pharmacists' licenses couldn't be revoked.

It would be karma to watch them squirm and protest that they need to support their familieeeeees.

Ick

I remember this crap first time 'round. (NO, not Lysistrata, wiseguys.)

It was stupid then. It's disappointing now. It wasn't funny either time.

And the subtext is ideological whoredom.

Feeling sorry?

People who say they feel sorry, or pity, for people, then go off on a triumphant rant do not feel sorrow or pity, but are using it as a one-up gambit straight off the playground.

Incidentally, with the exception of the CFMP Monkey red shoes, the clothes look quite stunning on her, especially the Tahari, which is the cheapest of the lot.

But Mummy shouldn't let little Piper carry the Louis Vuitton. That's a LOT of money for a kid to lug about and creates a very bad impression.

This was a stupid move. If she'd paid for it herself, in this economy, it would have been excessive, but her own business. The transformation from Ellie Mae Clampett to Lady Who Lunches with Heads of States may be a rightwing wet dream, but it was poor policy.

Liar, liar, pants on fire

Either she's a liar or she's stupid and lacks empathy.

Slander?

But it was okay for McCain to call a minor child a dog.

Get that shoulder checked

I don't care how slowly that gray car was going: if you were struck hard enough that the mirror bent, you should get your shoulder X-rayed or at least checked out.

Thank you!

I'm thrilled about Obama (and scared for him).

As a classic Boomer, I always thought that Gen X was karma in action for us. Serves us right.

But it's good that "McGovern" won in what really will be your time, only it's Obama. We've got a lot to share and learn from each other.

Apologies? We all do the best we can and wind up fucking up, then trying to make it up. I feel that way with the last of the Greatest Generation. I raised hell with my mother on Social Security. Fair's only fair.

God, do we need some luck along with some hard teamwork.

And I've always loved your work on BUFFY!

@Sureok

Alison Krause

Jeffrey Miller

Bill Schroeder

Sandra Scheuer

And Dean Kahler, who was paralyzed, and Mary Vecchio, who witnessed.

And the two young men at Jackson State -- Perhaps someone could post their names so we can remember before you all take the lead moving forward.

Not preaching a lesson.

Just remembering.

Recently, I tracked down my father's WWII Division. He was at the Battle of the Bulge and never spoke of it. Sooner or later, we make peace with the authorities...
