That's about 2/3 of a West Virginia, or, since I have nothing against West Virginia, about 1-1/2 Massachusetts. Or almost precisely one Denmark. But we don't own Denmark, and I have nothing against the Danes, either.

San Diego is pretty much a desert. So is LA and Las Vegas. Don't see why you can't put a couple of these towers right nearby.

  • Excellent article

I've been saying it for years and I will keep on saying it. Every time Gary Kamiya or some other supposedly really really smart person goes on about how average Americans are just too STOOPID to know what's good for them, a thousand of them turn around and give you the finger.

The working class knows that you look down on them, that you wouldn't want your daughter to marry one. They hate you right back, preemptively.

Obama may have done himself, or the party, a favor, by highlighting the class war that has been waged on the middle and working class by the Republicans for the last 30 years. It depends on how he works it.

He does, however, have a pronoun problem. Listen to his speeches. Check the I's, the we's, the you's, the them's. Some of his statements have a paternalistic feel, as if he is talking, not to or about his peers, but to a child. "Part of my job as President would be to keep YOU safe." Uh-uh. Bad tone. That needs to be us, the nation, the country, whatever.

On the plus side, he talks to people as if they are not too STOOPID to understand what he is saying.

    And love Heather Havrilesky

Beans beans are good for your heart

The more you eat the more you fart

The more you fart the better you feel

So eat beans with every meal.

My poor bean-loving friend has the gout and can no longer eat the beans he loves as they are bad for the gout.

I've been catching Fabulous Baker Boys on cable a lot lately:

    "Peas, peas, try our peas.

    Our peas are a delicacy."

...till about the seventh page, I feel sorry for the current coming-of-age and 20-something generation. How did everything go so wrong? What happened to feminism? Is human nature immutable, or perhaps, are we just programmable robots?

    40-something male.

  • Wright is a true believer

[Read the article: Why Jeremiah Wright is so wrong]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

God will smite America for it's sins. Really no different than Pat Robertson going on about how God hit New orleans with Katrina because of the fags and abortionists and pagans and feminists. We need to have a conversation about religion in this country, too.

  • Why don't they ask...

[Read the article: What should Obama do about Rev. Jeremiah Wright?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Really. Salon could just go down to Bay View or Hunter's Point and ask around. Just like they could take the BART a few miles out of town and ask some actual working people what they think about being "bitter." (The New York contigent could cross the river to Jersey.) Or they could wait around after 5:00 and ask the Hispanics who are cleaning their offices what they think about Obama. Just imagine, interviews with the non-pundit class.

But they don't. They never have, and they never will.

Obama has some serious problems with this. I thought he should have brought up Hagee right from the get-go when the Wright flap first surfaced. Pushed back at the media. But he didn't. If he does it now, it will be interpreted as a kind of schoolyard "Yeah, but they do it to."

Someone upthread said they had bought several gift subscriptions. Really? In the past few years? For real? I would have been embarassed to do so. I canceled my subscription a year or two after the new regime took over. Nothing to do with the current campaign.

  • Economists?

[Read the article: Now, Paul Krugman throws economists off the bus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Hell, I know and have worked with a bunch. A lot of them are living in some fantasy land where people are just data points and they can't understand why they don't act "rationally," in accordance with the supposed "laws" of economics. Greenspan is an economist. Friedman was an economist. How'd that work out for ya? It was economists who destroyed the Russian economy with "schock therapy," creating as a by-product one of the greatest criminal enterprises of all time.

Reminds me of the time I was talking w/ a Marine intelligence officer about the Iraq war. When I pointed out that the French were right, the Germans were right, that Blix and Bareidi were right (that I was right), he said, simply, "They weren't credible."

    So much for expertise.

Yes, the gas tax holiday is a load of crap, but Clinton is saying something that millions of working class people have been hoping that some politician would have the audacity to say: The moneyed interests are screwing you and we are going to level the playing field, so you can get a bigger chunk of change.

That's the kind of change the middle class needs - the kind you can put in your pocket.

No caucuses! You hold a caucus we won't seat your delegates. You want to participate in the election process, then hold an election.

    Also, no open primaries.

  • Al Gore for VP? John Edwards? No way

Obama needs someone w/ either executive or national security credentials.

Yes, they are a bunch of children. But don't worry, it's pretty much the same twelve people over and over again on this thread. Can't be everybody, can it? Can it?

Something interesting to read, from Charles Pierce. Whyncha all STFU and listen to someone else for a while?
