There won't be any do over. Where were the complaints about Florida and Michigan when the party set the rules 6 months ago ? Sorry, I don't see how changing the rules for Hillary's benefit is going to fly. It is interesting how the pro-hillary crowd now thinks it's an outrage these delegates don't get seated, when there was no such outrage when the party set the rules in August.
The Democratic National Committee has a rules committee which voted to strip Florida and Michigan of their delegates because those states were breaking party rules. The State committees had 30 days to modify their primary date and chose not to. This is all just talk. The DNC is not going to change the rules again because Hillary is losing. For those of you in Michigan and Florida, you have a bone to pick with your state parties. There will be no re-vote or seating of Florida or Michigan delegates at the convention. Get over it.
Can't compete ? Change the rules.
This might offend some Clinton supporters, however as we have already seen posted on this board, some are not offended. The other 75 % of the US agrees with the assessment.
Where are the new business and jobs being created by this generation of highly educated independent women in the US ? It's very disappointing to me that with the majority of college educations going to women that this doesn't seem to be paying off in innovation and new business. Where are the female equivalents of microsoft or hp or google or cisco or ebay ? Surely we can expect more than marykay and jennycraig ?
I have run some experiments of my own. When I increased my role in household duties (vacuuming, cooking, dishes, etc.) it was greatly appreciated, but resulted in no additional nookie. Of course, I probably do more than my share already, so the impact may not have been the same as someone who doesn't pitch in as often.
It aint so mythical, the garters, maid outfits, etc.....you should see the action at my house on a saturday nite when the kids are out.....Sorry I already promised not to distribute the pics.
"The idea that such "housewifery" even exists in 2008 is pretty funny. Maybe the illusion of it is maintained by Martha Stewart (who in reality is a single 66 year old billionaire, with an army of servants), but the reality of it is long dead."
Where do you live ? I can tell you "housewifery" is alive and well in the suburbs. As I have written here before, in the Atlanta suburbs, moms that don't work are still seen as a status symbol (for the wives anyway). I have heard the neighbors wives say things like, "I'll never go back to work !" Privilege indeed.
"Harvard Law's president where he said women's brains are just not suited for the study of law"
Can you provide a reference ?
I am well aware of the Larry Summers quotes which have been inaccurately described countless times here at BS. Since LeCastor talked about a Harvard Law President commenting about women not being suited to study law, this has no connection to Larry Summers. Talk about lazy.
I agree with Lanier. I also agree that, as an older, out of shape guy with a receding hairline I also wouldn't have much chance with a girl like Kristin without money involved. Of course, even when I was a young, in shape, mop topped lad, it would have still taken money to snare a girl like Kristin, but thats an argument for another thread.
I think you miss the point of what prostitution means to a married guy....no hassles, at least in theory. Searching through personal ads for an unknown quantity to have sex with and all the baggage that comes with is not something most men would consider...think Fatal Attraction. Sex with a "pro" that is a nice neat transaction and ends right there is really the attraction. Not that I have ever done anthing like that.
Your wrong. Justice is not blind.
Yes let's blame men for not changing the workplace rules to better suit women.....hello ? I don't hear a huge outcry from men about workplace rules. Somehow whenever women can not or don't want to compete, they blame men and try to change the rules. I can't wait for that huge job boom that's coming from all the female driven innovation and inspiration that's gonna hit the marketplace.....someday.
Not men. Not women. Capitalism. Whoever works harder gets more. Not a perfect system but it does give you choices. The great news is, if you don't like the rat race, get off the treadmill.
@cataract
Don't read broadsheet if your depressed, it will definitely make you feel worse. This is ground zero for bad manners in gender relations. I don't believe anyone here thinks men and women are not equals, we just disagree on everything else.
...until I started reading feminist blogs. I am sure this thread will demonstrate that feminists don't agree on what a feminist is. I used to think it was about equal rights...whoa was I wrong.
