Support and Accountability

"there should be better support systems for people like Emmie"

From where ...the gov't ? Through all of history the support structure has been the family. Now that feminists have decided to dismantle the family structure, they want gov't to solve all their problems. Well the govt is the people and the people don't want to solve all problems created from risky behavior.

How about a nice dose of accountability for women ? You know, you get pregnant, your accountable for it....instead of, oh poor Emmie, how can we fund a program for her mistakes ?

Accountability

Pregnancy is not some kind of surprise event. You screw unprotected and you get pregnant. Now Emmie slept with a bum AND did it in an unprotected fashion. Those are two things she had COMPLETE control over. So why is this posited as something that "happened" to Emmie, when in fact Emmie MADE it happen. Because this is the language of feminism, where women are not responsible for their own actions and decisions. So for starters let's start talking about it the way that it really is. Only a women can get pregnant, so she should be 100% responsible for ensuring birth control (unless of course, she wants to be pregnant). Also, feminists talk about being sex positive and the beauty of casual sex...well that dramatically increases your chances of being knocked up by a loser, which is an obvious downer. Not sure what the upside of casual sex is, but I'm sure there are plenty here that would celebrate it. The fracturing of the family just makes this situation that much worse, there is a strong correlation in this country with the haves and the have nots aligning with those with a strong family and those without. If there is one thing the govt can do, it is to promote marriage and family stability rather than incent divorce.

PS...I'm not anti-choice...just anti-feminist. I would like to see abortion legal and rare....not just another birth control option.

@NYCGrrrl

That's a pretty rich statement coming from you.....i went back exactly 1 previous post of yours and found this:

"Personally, the Asian women can keep the white American men. These guys don't know how to treat a woman for the most part"

Glad to see how open and accepting you are (dismissing ~ 100 million men so caringly). Hypocrite.

Public vs. Private

Nail polish, teased hair and lingerie are not illegal in private...it's only in public, so the fact that these items are for sale is irrelevant.

Another point worth making, which I'm sure most freedom loving people don't want to hear.....the election results actually matched pre-election polls, so although something is in the air in Iran, it doesn't appear to be a fixed election.

@Anonymous_too

It might surprise you to learn that education level is the most accurate predictor of poverty, not divorce. I know this shifts the burden of poverty to the individual vs. an institution, but let's be honest. Your situation was most likely influenced primarily by what level of education you have and how many hours you work. Divorce as a poverty indicator for women is really all about unprepared women going at it alone. The best thing we could do to reduce divorce rates would be to get rid of the concept of joint marital assets....that way your entrance into a marriage and exit out of are both based on your individual contribution and not the success level of your spouse.

Poor Messenger

Obama doesn't have a clue when it comes to fatherhood or family policy, and I voted for him. Shaming african-american fathers as a solution to the mess that is the american family ?....umm no. At least he recognizes that a father is important to the family.....now all he has to do is figure out how to convince mothers the same. Maybe he should create a special commission of women and girls to look into the problem.....oh, never mind.

Joe, you seem like a nice enough guy. I strongly recommend you resign your position with Broadsheet and stop posting here immediately. Your participation here will haunt you the rest of your adult life.

Fatherhood

The number of single mothers has been and continues to grow in this country. The question is, do people believe this is because men are becoming less and less responsible ? My opinion is this problem is largely due to cultural attitudes towards men in general, increases in female income, and family laws which incent the wrong behavior. Let's face it, how many articles have we read on Salon celebrating single motherhood by (lifestyle) choice ?

Teachable Moment

I like using salonista words like that. I think it is fairly accepted that Rihanna started and even provoked the attack. It's kind of hard to get from.... a former lover texted Chris Brown, to.... he proceeded to beat the crap out of his girlfriend, without Rihanna engaging in some poor behavior. What I hoped would come out of this is that Rihanna would admit she lost her temper and started striking the defendant. This, of course, in no way excuses what he did, but it would allow us all to agree that women should NEVER strike a man.

Of course that was all before I read all the feminist hypocrites saying it was OK for a women to strike a man first because..... hey men don't get hurt by that.
