@Asehpe

Just to be clear....I am liberal in every way EXCEPT I am antifeminist. I don't identify with MRA's precisely because of their conservative followers and their bitterness. But the leaders of the movement and what they have published make infinitely more sense to me than what's being published in the name of feminism today (with their own bitterness issues). And I do have a daughter and a son, which is why it is more important to me then ever to ensure they BOTH have equal rights and equal opportunities.

It's kind of scary when someone suggests that having a daughter is a reason to be a feminist. I would argue having a daughter is a reason not to be a feminist. People like canuckistan bob, who physically threaten people, brag about their sexual conquests and penis size are not what I would call enlightened by feminism.

MRA and Conservatism

I don't believe MRA's have their roots in conservatism. I believe they attract conservatives, but in general the leaders of the MRA movement are NOT conservative.

Short Lived

I like Wanda Sykes...kinda, in Christine, but if this clip is any indication, I think this show is headed for the scrap heap in 6 weeks.

Debate This

Compare the facts vs. the delivery.....feminism in all it's glory.

@Ashepe and Mr E

You both skipped on the actual point of my post. Feminists consistently whine about the lack of help they get from men when it comes to housework....which is usually included with statements about video games, laziness, beer drinking...etc. But when you confront a feminist and ask about whether women are doing their share of paid work or bill paying you get....crickets. This article is just another example (i have posted other studies with the same results) that show when accounting for paid and unpaid work, men and women work about the same amount. You would never know that from reading feminist blogs. Even the article seems to minimize men's contributions and only grudgingly references that in total...they are equal. Again, classic propaganda.

Sweden

The population in Sweden in total is smaller than many US cities. To extrapolate their solution as applicable to the US is nothing more than dreaming.

Government as Daddy

"What I see happening is simply that, as women acquire more financial power (finally comparable to men's), relationships between them will have to be negotiated on terms other than simply 'submit to the breadwinning partner."

This is certainly the feminist position. Of course I have never met a man who demanded his wife submit to the breadwinner. Even in the very conservative, very affluent suburb I live in, the opposite is true. Women dictate to hen picked husbands who fund their lifestyle (I'm practically a hero because I say no to my wife in public) Why...because men want to remain a part of their children's lives. Hopefully you won't disagree that in the case of divorce and custody, women have the upper hand and are more likely to end up with a better standard of living (the house) and custody.... at least until child support payments end. Feminism teaches women to be victims and rely on government legislation rather than their own efforts to ensure their future livelihood.

In addition, the whole concept of alimony should be scrapped, why should any person be guaranteed a standard of living just by the fact they were married for some period of time ? This is a throwback to the 50's, when supposedly men required their women to stay home....that's no longer the case. And if you believe that women (or men) don't have a choice when they don't earn their own living....well that's the victim mentality and infantilizes whoever you project that on. How do we tell women they can do anything, but not expect them to do the same ?

Ignorance is Bliss

Here at Broadsheet. How many men do you know that wanted to wait to have kids ?....exactly, none. This is a female phenomena, not a male phenomena. So please don't hold your breath waiting for men to push for free day care and flex time...or better yet...do hold it. Older men that have babies are usually doing it for the women, or by accident...not because they want to become fathers in their 40's or 50's. Do you have any evidence of your projections, or is it just another post to fit your preconceived notions ?

PS ....stop pretending men think their sperm doesn't have a shelf life....all men know this, it's basically common sense. Just because women want to have children at older ages at the expense of their kids health...dont project this on men.

@ELYDOG

Yes...I wanted to have children. Definitely also wanted to be done conceiving by 35. Of course, what do you expect from an irish catholic.

@Asephe

"I know men who basically refused to even consider the idea of having children, much to the dismay of their wives."

I hate to even bring this up, but isn't this an obvious question before getting married ? Geez.

Devolution

Now that this thread has completely devolved into comparative victimhood, can we all agree that Kate Harding and Lisa Belkin both give feminism a bad name ? To all you sad sacks, you reap what you sow.
