@Phylmom

You don't have to rub it in. I am the only democrat in my neighborhood and at work. Even my kids had to take the heat for being the only Obama supporters at school. Of course, that's what I get for living in one of the most conservative counties in the country !

AKA

"Why is it only women who are harshly judged if they engage in sex for reasons other than love? Why do we not harshly judge men who engage in sex without love or the expectation of love?"

I find it hard to believe the majority of men don't feel the same way as I do on this subject. I hate to judge people at all, but I believe that men who engage in sex without love are NO different than women who engage in sex without love. I guess it's just the way I was brought up. And I have to continue remind people I am not a republican fundie...how sad is that ? Democrats are no longer allowed to believe in morals and family, no wonder we only win elections every 3rd cycle.

PS...I get it that teenage boys think the guy getting laid regularly is "all that", but by college I had already dropped that notion.

Postcard from Georgia

Georgia is still a deep red state. The Republican machinery is dominant with the exception of Atlanta. There was NO organized Democratic effort for Martin. When Obama decided not to get involved in this race....it was over. I got a call from the so called Obama campaign for canvassing or phone banking and I said I was willing to do it on Saturday, November 29th....no one called back to tell me when and where. Chambliss TV adds outnumbered Martins somewhere around 5 to 1 by my count. The Georgia Democratic party really folded it's tent after the general election.

This runoff has no national meaning. From my view, the national elections were not decided on ideaology either, democratic or republican. It was about throwing out the incompetent bums in power, yes...change. As a democrat I wish it was more meaningful than that.

Final thought...Notorious Wes ?...your still here ? after every prediction in the primaries and GA you made was wrong I thought you would have disappeared from the scene.

Looks vs. Smarts

Why is a woman's brains more important than a woman's beauty? We all come into this world with some set of advantages and disadvantages. Anyone who doesn't use their advantages to their benefit is short changing themselves. I have spent much time with smart and beautiful women...but I have also spent a lot of time with smart ugly women and dumb beautiful women. They all had positives and negatives, but somehow I was able to enjoy and appreciate these women for who they were. It seems that all these BS threads devolve into catty women criticizing male behavior. No wonder the stereotypes are so enduring.

Obsession

I don't get the obsession with Tina Fey. She did a great impersonation, but she's not that funny. Her writing is not that funny. Compare her to other SNL alumni and she might make the JV team. She is pretty. I don't find her sexy. Is it really to the point that her gender requires BS to fall all over themselves talking her up?

The Obvious Answer

Is sometimes the best. No, Hillary is not a hack. Will she be a great SoS ?, that depends more on Obama than herself. The genius of this move is to get Hillary and her 50 million cracks out of the Senate and out of the way of Obama's legislative efforts.

@postnoodz

"Regardless, the corporate world does not depend upon upper body strength (in addition to Hotrod's ridiculous claims that women don't want to work 60 hr weeks whereas men do [does anyone ideally want to do this other than during deadlines?], travel, etc.), yet women still get the short end of the stick. In reality, we are still "

It's easy to ridicule any idea if you take the position it is an absolute. Obviously the concept of men working more hours is not an absolute. But there IS a mountain of data that shows men as a group DO work more hours than woman and recognize it as a way to get ahead. Would I prefer to work less hours ....duh. Am I willing to work more hours if it means advancement...duh. So yes, there are exceptions....thanks for clearing that up for me. But there is plenty of data, if you care to open your eyes, that women work less hours, take more sick time, take more personal time, yada yada. I didn't make the rules....but I am willing to play by them.

A Different World

I feel the anger building......kinda supports my first post. Now before the frothing begins, let's not forget that just about every major company in the US employs quotas for women in management and pays women higher than men so they don't get sued. I have seen it at GE, I have seen it at IBM, I have seen it at my current firm, which shall remain nameless but is THE technology bellweather. Why ? the usual reasons, some women dont want to work 60 hours, some women don't want to travel, some women dont like engineers or engineering...whatever, the point is, in the corporate world, companies are bending over backwards for the poor wimmin. And guess what....it still dont work.
