knecht

I am sorry if you were offended at my last post, but it was not directed exclusively at you, as others chimed in suggesting I stated that verbal abuse was a sufficient precursor to physical abuse (Cassandra Says, Asehp). My very first post I closed with "I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out Rihanna actually initiated the violence", which I thought was clear.

Why that matters is if she struck him first, she should also be arrested (not sure why the details would matter) but also, the whole framework of the story changes. It's not just about the pretty little singer who got beat up. It's about the pretty singer with a bad temper that started a fight and got beat up. It MIGHT also change the subject about how DV is NOT exclusively the domain for women as victims, which is the standard feminist narrative.

Irony

Considering Rebecca is primarily known for her feminist echo chamber rants, there is some delicious irony in her writing a post about how tone death Gwyneth Paltrow is. It might surprise Rebecca to learn, not everyone has lost their job. Not everyone has lost their sense of humor. Not everyone has lost their love of food. I suspect the readership of GOOP is at least as voluminous as BS, and there are actually many critics of Rebecca's political views and writing.....to which I am sure she would say "Fuck the haters!"

Pet Peeve

This article is exactly the thing that puts a burr in my saddle. Of course I feel bad for the sweet little old ladies in prison, that will likely die there. But the number of sweet little old men in prison that will die there is an order of magnitude greater. The fact that this problem cannot be reported in a non-gender manner makes me want to puke.

"dude", you don't see me measuring my manhood or my feminist credentials by how often i get laid. Talking about my penis size just shows how intellectually bankrupt you are.

Barack Has It Right

I am not surprised I disagree with Joan on this. Obama has it exactly right to continue to extend the olive branch to the Republican party. Whether they take it or not is irrelevant. By refusing to work in a bipartisan manner, the repubs are getting mauled in the court of public opinion....and dont think people dont notice Obama is at least trying. If you are complaining about the size of this stimulus bill (too small), you are almost certainly way left of the rest of the country.

I think this model works and Obama should continue to use it. Try bipartisanship, and then move forward with your agenda. It's really the perfect scenario for Obama and the Democrats, if not the more radical elements of the party.

Yea, I saw trudy's comment, but didn't bother to address it, I mean really, as if I don't know it's a womens issues blog. The point I was making is, if you can't talk about a women's issue which is OBVIOUSLY signficantly worse for men, and don't even mention it in passing, you are maliciously withholding information from the reader.....that's why I consistently use the work propaganda to describe this blog.

Original article: Sharing abortion stories

Black and White

It's easy to cover the black and white aspects of this controversial subject, but it doesn't add any value. Yes some women think abortion is murder, and therefor should not have an abortion. Some women don't think about it from a moral perspective at all, and if it doesn't fit in with their life plans, get rid of it. The rest of the country recognizes it as much more complex than that. Me, I'm anti-abortion and pro-choice. Abortion should be legal and rare. To call abortion murder, or to call a fetus nothing but a lump of tissue is to ignore the topic completely.

We've been agreeing too much lately. What's with that ? As far as abortion as murder goes, that's a small and crazy bunch that believes that. And of course I have never had an abortion, but I have had sisters and girlfriends that did. The toughest part about it is the morale aspect of it. Not that's it murder, but the potential for life was very difficult to digest for me. I know it was quite rough on the women in my life as well. And just in case it's not obvious, I've never been a church goer.

Back to the Girls

The girl whose body can be impregnated should be responsible to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Her body, her choice, right? On the other hand, if the boy does not want to be financially responsible for a child for the next 18 years, or wants to protect against STD's then he should cover his stump. At the end of the day it is a women's responsibility to prevent a pregnancy she does not want. It is after all, her body and her choice.

Pretty Funny Stuff

This is almost funny. First off, how many women really think like this ? From everything I can see, it's less than 10% of the US population. Secondly and more importantly, when are radical feminists going to actually talk to men about these great idea's they have ? Dictating to men about what we should be is not exactly a succesful endeavor, which kind of explains why feminism is no longer on anybody's radar (except that < 10%). So basically, the jist of this post is, feminists have a headache, and everybody else is fine. Is there anything in the world that occurs anymore that's not the patriarchy's fault ?
