  • RE: Paternity fraud

[Read the article: A man's right to choose in Ohio]

Agreed. But I do find it hard to support women's reproductive rights when many women apparently have no interest in addressing the inequalities that men face. I think there are many progressive men like myself that are shocked at the position supposedly progressive women take on these inequalities. Although I do see some positive input from time to time, women need to understand that if they want me to fight for them, they better be willing to fight for me.

  • Why I Read Broadsheet

[Read the article: Broadsheet is on hiatus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There are not many progressive news sites with hard hitting political commentary. Gender issues are very much part of today's political climate. Broadsheet is an extension of Joan's politics and in my view, an outlet for radical feminist rhetoric. Story's that focus on equality dont get nearly the vitriol that an article with a title like "Are Men Selfish" ( I know this wasn't Broadsheet), but it's part of the same message. All the so called angry men appear to be arguing FOR equality, myself included. When things get nasty is when men point out the hypocrisy of Broadsheet politics, which is not about equality, but about the superiority and privilege of women. Then you see the nasty counter posts of the angry women, and it escalates from there. I participate to ensure that inaccurate and biased messages don't get accepted unchallenged. If we are to remain in the majority, this must be hashed out, because the radical feminist wing of the Democratic party is probably the single biggest voice that drives moderates away.

  • Not Radical Feminism ?

[Read the article: Broadsheet is on hiatus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Radical Feminism is a "current" within feminism that focuses on patriarchy as a system of power that organizes society into a complex of relationships producing a "male supremacy" that oppresses women. Radical feminism seeks to challenge and to overthrow patriarchy by opposing standard gender roles and male oppression of women, and calls for a radical reordering of society.

So this is does not reflect Broadsheet politics ?!?

Since you are lecturing me on my manners, may I ask what it is that I posted that you found so rude ?

Certainly I hope women are not having children to keep up with the Jones's, but I can say in the Atlanta suburbs, mom's not working is a status symbol. I suspect it's the same all over the country. Maybe as a single woman living in the city, Rebecca doesn't know jack about life in suburbia. Families of more than 2 children is not exceptional. Trend ? I don't think so, I'm one of 6 and grew up in the 70's.

Women, please don't blame men for your bad situation at home. If you are not getting a fair shake, own the problem. Men work as much if not more than women in total.

    The eagle has landed.

Fathers 4 Justice established their beachhead at Lincoln Memorial over the weekend and have announced plans to inject manly issues into the national discourse. I believe they can and will.

  • Post-feminism vs. Radical-feminism

    [Read the article: "I'll be post-feminist in a post-patriarchy"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Most people believe feminism has successfully achieved the goal of equal opportunity. Post-feminism are those who have moved on to new "issues" whether it be environmental or "vegetarians engage the klan". The Lisa Jervis / Broadsheet version of feminism is the radical "blame the patriarchy" version which will literally NEVER end, because it assumes women can tell men what they should be. The backlash to this is growing.

Without giving too much credence to calgodot's post:

"1. Look at a picture of Congress. How many men do you see? How many women? Establish a ratio. This will serve as a measure of patriarchy."

The whole concept of democracy destroys this logic. Women are a majority, but can't get themselves elected ? Choices, choices, choices.

"2. Alternatively, compile a list of CEOs and boards of directors. Count the number of men, then count the number of women. Establish a ratio. This will serve as a measure of patriarchy."

Again women take no ownership for their own choices. As more educated women head back home to take care of their children, and study after study confirms women's careers are based on their own choices, the radical feminist bury's her/his head in the sand like an ostrich.

"3. Alternatively, examine other institutions of power and authority (such as law enforcement or the military). Obtain the numbers of men and women in positions of authority within those institutions. Establish a ration. This will serve as a measure of patriarchy."

Yes indeed. These institutions were founded based on physical strength requirements, however they were changed so women could join, which they have. No matter how many quota's have been put in place, women have not been able to make progress in area's they're not physically suited for. Shocking.

Alternatively, examine fields like nursing, family courts, and public schools. Obtain the numbers of men and women in positions of authority within those institutions. Establish a ratio. This will serve as a measure of matriachy.

Where in our culture is femininity presented as weak ? I must be living in my own private idaho. Everything I see on TV, movies, books, newspapers and magazines present femininity as strong, dominant and all knowing, and in my dog patch men are presented as weak, dumb and clueless.

As to the question about if a female presidential candidate in the US can be sexual.....you bet, and would probably do quite well, assuming she is experienced, has executive presence, and has real conviction on issues, rather than being a virtual wind vane.

Thank you for educating me that TV is not fact. What about all the other cultural mediums you left out ? Where do you see the cultural message that femininity is weak, outside what our women's studies programs would have students believe ?
