Compromise ?

Obama will win the nomination fair and square and has no reason to compromise. My opinion is he will have no problem luring back working class white woman. Can you give me an example of one presidential election where the VP choice mattered ?

Good For the Party

Joan, please give one example of a bitter, drawn out Democratic primary resulting in a stronger candidate that won in the general election. You are party to a Republican victory....own it.

Babies Rights

If babies have the right to support from both parents, why are there no financial requirements for a custodial parent ? There are all sorts of financial requirements for a non-custodial parent...with significant punishments, but no financial requirement for the custodial parent. Apparently some rights are not equal.

No Problemo

But that doesn't really answer the question. Are you saying that the value that custodial parents provide is ALWAYS equal or more than the financial value a non-custodial parent makes ? I think that would be a hard case to make.

@postnoodz

What makes you think I have a beef with working class white women ? Is that like asking if I have stopped beating my wife ? Did you look at the exit polls in PA, OH, or NH ? What is the largest group that consistently supports Hillary ?

Wednesday, April 23, 2008 01:08 PM

@postnoodz

Not sure what your talking about. I specifically mentioned working white woman because they are the largest most reliable demographic that supports Hillary consistently....by much larger margins than Obama wins white men (if at all).... so poor analogy on your part. I specifically mentioned Obama will win the men over because he already has in other states...(see Wisconsin and others). Clinton supporters opinions are no more relevant than mine. The fact that she's gonna finish a close second, well Obama will have to decide what that means.

Thanks for sharing your views on humor.

Not Working Now ?

Joan, the PA results were almost EXACTLY the same as the results in OH. What worked for Obama initially still works for him now. What didn't work initially, still doesn't work. In large states where the Democratic establishment is entrenched, Hillary wins. Everywhere else Obama wins. It should be clear now that Obama will not get the older white women vote until Hillary is out. How about an article that explores why older white woman will not vote for Obama ? Is it gender ? Is it race ? Is it ageism ? Do they believe that being the wife of a president is the right experience for the job ? If older white woman split between the candidates Obama would have won every state. I don't think you should ignore this data.

Blacks are voting for Obama cause he's black....duh....they admit it. Feminists have spent the last 6 months telling us they weren't going to vote for Hillary because she's a woman. The old guard clearly has not lived up to this promise.

White Woman

The real question is why do white woman continue to vote for Clinton by a 30% margin ? Unfortunately it's not broken down by gender and age....but you have to assume the margin doubles for the over 50 crowd (Joan's, OH's and PA's demographic). This would be fine if Joan specifically and feminists in general hadn't been saying for the last 6 months this wouldn't happen. How bout some candor from the sisterhood, Joan ? Rebecca ?

No Fault

It's nobody's fault. Obama has captured the imagination of a large swath of people by appealing to a broad coalition. Unfortunately...or fortunately, the Democratic party is 60 % female and there are clearly a large number of female voters that will vote for Hillary until the the voting lever is "pried from their dead, cold hands". I am not criticizing this, but it does show how feminists have failed miserably at "voting for the best candidate independent of race and gender". It is also a clear lesson for the future of the party. Can the Democratic party be about something more than identity politics ? Will they continue to hemorrhage male voters ? I have to say, it is a good test for my vote.

Coping Mechanism

I'd like to see a study on divorce "clusters". It seems to me divorce clusters around certain families. My extended family has very few divorces, on my wife's side it runs rampant. This author's reaction to her divorce seems almost cliche. He was a jerk, it was all his fault, I was the perfect loving wife, yada yada. Sounds like a coping mechanism that many woman can jump onboard for.

Zero Credibility

Joan, you have lost all credibility in this race. As much as you would like to believe your reporting has been even handed, it has been as one sided as say....fox news. Apparently your peers are noticing too, zero nominations for the 2008 webby awards. Salon needs a new editor in chief yesterday.

Back to Basics

Hillary is still finished. Joan is still a partisan hack. LeCastor is still an emotional teenager. Obama is still the Democratic nominee for president. John McCain is still low hanging fruit. Religious affiliations still don't matter. Now returning to your regularly scheduled program.

Why Joan Matters

She is the chief editor of this magazine. She has made a career out of slamming republican style propaganda efforts through the media. She has time and time again said she is not supporting either candidate. Yet, she continues to use propaganda to launch attack after attack against Obama. This is not subjective, go back through her archives and look. Her blog entries are almost unanimously negative for Obama and supportive of Clinton. No entry about Clinton's Bosnia misremember. No entry about Geraldine Ferraro's blowup. No negative entries about Clinton at all. This would all be fine if she just came out and said she was for Clinton, but she has continually lied about it. This is about journalistic integrity which is something I thought all Democrats cared about. I guess only when it is convenient.

I'm with kufir77, this must be only for the very most emasculated.
