46% percent of patients are undertreated under the current, private insurance-based system? Wow! Almost half of patients are undertreated. We really should change that stupid system so that people can get the treatment they need without having private insurance ration the care.
I must say, it is very sad that Ms. don't-pull-the-pull-on-Grandma makes a more compelling case for reform than the Dems.
46% of people who actually get attention from a doctor now are undertreated. Add to that the number of people who don't even see a Dr. and are by definition untreated, and the current system performs poorly for over half of the population.
Add to that number the 11% she says are overtreated, and almost 2 out of 3 people in the country get inappropriate levels of medical care under the current broken system.
Dems talking point courtesy of crazy Republican lady:
"Almost 2/3 of Americans do NOT get the appropriate level of care under the current system."
Thanks crazy lady.
I agree with you that Stewart either "lost" or ended up in a draw (though I am not comfortable with the win/lost measure).
There was so much to challenge her on that he can't be blamed for missing some openings:
Medicare is great, people love it, but Rotten Ronnie said it was going to led to the downfall of freedom in America-- JS could have pushed her more on the fact that these dire warnings never come true.
The $500 billion point was also a concern. JS could have pointed out that $178 billion (or whatever the number is) would be saved by ending subsidies that insurance companies already get; he could have pointed out the savings from negotiating better drug prices; he could have pointed out that the 11% overtreatment rate ends up costing billions....
The problem is less with JS then it is with the Dems. The GOP is going to spout some of McCaughey's talking points and we all see this coming, but the Dems are not going to bother preparing swift, decisive rebuttals.
The Dems failed to develop rebuttals to the plans laid out by Frank Luntz a few months ago and now the GOP are following Luntz' points one-by-one, AND they are controlling the debate.
