Dear Friend:
For the last nine months, when retroactive immunity has surfaced, we have been able to delay its passage.
We were able to stop it in December because I had an army behind me.
Two months later, it stalled again -- this time in the House.
And last week, we managed to delay action one last time.
But when the Senate returns from the July 4th recess, we will vote on FISA legislation that includes retroactive immunity for telecom companies that may have illegally helped the Bush administration spy without warrant.
It's a bad bill and we need action to stop retroactive immunity from becoming law.
I've introduced an amendment with Senator Feingold to strip immunity from the bill.
This amendment has the support of Majority Leader Reid and Senator Obama, but it needs 51 votes to pass.
Will you sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of our amendment?

Together, we can prevent this assault on our Constitution.
Let's do it one more time. With your help, we can stop the further erosion of the rule of law.
We'll be in touch soon.

Obama did a welcome flipflop on Gen. Clark. Click on sig.
"The Senator says his call Monday for supporters to avoid denigrating military service was not a reference to Wesley Clark’s comment about McCain. "I think in at least one publication it was reported that my comments yesterday about Senator McCain were in a response to General Clark. I think my staff will confirm that was in a draft of that speech that I had written two months ago."
Also says Clark does not owe McCain an apology..."

In the past, I’ve been one of the most vocal and aggressive critics of the Democratic Congress. Almost right out of the gate, they started hedging on their campaign promises and preparing us for the inevitable let-downs that they seemed to know were coming. I was having none of it, and I blogged my little fingers off decrying their betrayals.
And not a damned thing changed. Indeed, things just kept getting worse.
I’m no genius, but I’m pretty convinced that I know enough to recognize when something isn’t working.
Doing the blogosphere’s version of the cartoon scream where that little dangly thing in the back of your mouth wiggles from side to side... well, that simply hasn’t worked.
So this time, we will have well over 10,000 people organized by the end of the week. We’re working on strategies that will leverage that organization right now. I don’t know if it will be any more effective than virtual petulance, but I – and thousands and thousands of others – think it is worth doing.
And we’d love for you to come join us.
If Jennifer Rubin believes that liberal values are not in the best interest of anybody including the United States, and that it is an odd eccentricity that many Jewish voters hold, then in her frame of reference, she's not talking about dual loyalties at all. I.e., "voting as a liberal you're anyway voting against the best interests of the United States, so please put more weight on what's good for Israel".
Most likely Ms J.R. is not objective like G.G.; who contra JR is able to put aside his political preferences and to say that a voter voting Republican might believe he is voting for the best interests of the United States.

Which just confirms my belief that Incompetents in Government is not a Bush Innovation.
