Guns Are Not Enough
[Read the article: Why Democrats dumped gun control]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Clearly the founding fathers meant for all American citizens to have access to state of the art killing apparatus for all time. Therefore in that same vein, I think it is not only constitutional but patriotic and just to arm all Americans with the latest chemical or radiological weapons, thus keeping us in line with our founding fathers intent and on par with the hostile entities we face today.

Sarkozy and the knee jerk reactions
[Read the article: It's Sarkozy time!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As an American living in France, I see that there are many French who secretly voted for Sarkozy even though much of the population here, as in the Salon.com community, have a knee jerk end of the world reaction to anything perceived as right of center. Let us be clear, the right and left in France have little to do with "moral issues" like it does in the US. The one single issue which clearly divides the right and left is the economic path of this country. Here are the facts:
1-This "laid back" work environment is bad for business, bad for the economy and bad for the future.
2-If you used to work 39 hours a week and now work 35, you are still expected to do the same amount of work; thus not really improving your quality of work environment.
3-Those who want to work more cannot. The company is PENALIZED in taxes if it's employees wish to work more and earn more.
4-Sarkozy wants to allow companies to ALLOW employees to work more if they want, not do away with the 35 hour work week.
5-The youth of France are leaving in droves because they CAN'T FIND A JOB. Only the safely employed or those on the dole would (hypocritically) oppose this labor modernization.
6-Globalization is here to stay. There are few business start ups in France with it's overly coddled laborers and overly expensive system.
Finally, to tell the French they "will regret" electing Sarkozy like you did Blair is terribly patronizing and shows your ignorance of France or French issues. Kind of like asking Americans not to vote for George Bush, and we see how well that idea unfolded.

The End of an Era?
[Read the article: America is not Bush]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]After reading David Buckleys opinion, I hope he does himself a favor and ends his misery now. As for this woeful Bush Era, I begin to have hope, a glimmer...that this too shall pass. As someone who actually worked in the World Trade Center and survived 9/11 in person, I can attest that some of the US and all of the world consider 9/11 a moment in time, a day where planes hit buildings and then they fell. This event was in fact an exquisite exercise in protracted pain, in the assault on your senses, in the daily reminders of loss and memory we endured for perhaps a full year. I admit that I too wanted revenge back then and was willing to accept whatever precepts to get that revenge. America lost more than lives that day, it lost its dream and most importantly its security.
During the multiple lies and disasters that followed we also lost our morality and credibility. I feel however that we have reached a turning point in our collective conscience. I dare to believe that we have seen the ugliness and the parallel between our holy warrior with God on his side and theirs. We the people need to make it so in deed and not just in venemous diatribes which do nothing and help no one. Our struggle is within our borders and it is called fundamentalism. (another parallel) As a country founded on freedom of religion and populated over centuries by people with nothing but religion, ours is a unique problem in the west and one secular Europe (because we took all their religious emigrants) cannot understand.

Paris Hilton...again!?!?
[Read the article: Paris isn't free -- and neither are we]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The reality is she made something of nothing, we didn't. She has turned herself into a brand, we didn't and people care about what happens to her, not about us. I can surely attest to Paris fatigue but the fact remains that there are millions of little rich girls whom we've never heard of; millions who do nothing but inherit, and yet this one had an alchemical ability to turn nothing into something. If I were a CEO I would seriously consider hiring her to do my PR/Marketing but wait...she doesn't need my job offer because once again she seems to have that Midas touch and while I can take or leave her antics, I can recognize her genius and not fall into that tired cliche of Paris bashing. She is young and spoiled for sure. From this experience she will learn and grow...can the population at large?
PS-Video decorating the cell and having daily visits with your dog and this too will be a PR stunt.

Paris--Symbol for the Youth?
[Read the article: Paris isn't free -- and neither are we]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Gotta disagree sorry. Paris is not the symbol for the youth of America nor did she preofess to be. It is YOUR job as parents to be a role model and direct your children. If you don't fullfill your responsibility, don't blame another youth.
